Lyrics:
From the first time the doctor placed you in my arms
I knew I'd meet death before I'd let you meet harm
Although questions arose in my mind, would I be man enough?
Against wrong, choose right and be standin up
From the hospital that first night
Took a hour just ta get the carseat in right
People drivin all fast, got me kinda upset
Got you home safe, placed you in your basonette
That night I don't think one wink I slept
As I slipped out my bed, to your crib I crept
Touched your head gently, felt my heart melt
Cause I know I loved you more than life itself
Then to my knees, and I begged the Lord please
Let me be a good daddy, all he needs
Love, knowledge, discipline too
I pledge my life to you
Just the two of us, we can make it if we try
Just the two of us, (Just the two of us)
Just the two of us, building castles in the sky
Just the two of us, you and I

Why sample a song if it won’t be “better”. What he’s done with forget me nots is even better than this. That song is super dusty.
@animelytical8354
@animelytical8354 8 ай бұрын
@@chuckytherapper "Why sample a song if it won't be "better"?" Well...because it takes a song about one kind of love and tells a story of another kind of love. And in much greater detail than you'd hear expressed in the kind of song the original is. There are aspects of the original that was sampled that even fit better with the theme of fathers and children, to be quite honest. But that's because the original gave the room for this kind of perspective. By design.

This isn’t from an era when rappers could be understood. Will always did things a little differently. He always said he refused to make music he wouldn’t let his children listen to. He didn’t cuss or use fouls language or references that were not child appropriate. He kept his music and his public image clean and respectable so his children could be proud of him. This is something no other rapper has even bothered to attempt.

I’m married now and when I look back on the single mom years it was a rough time in my life but it still feels special that it was just the two of us. I’m not having anymore kids but my husband is in the picture now and I’m so grateful, now it’s always the 3 of us🥰. My dad dedicated this song to me. He did it not only because of how much he loves me but everything described in this song is true and depicts my life. Specifically the part where he says that it didn't work out with him and my mom. I love my dad so much. I appreciate him more than anything.

He clearly let his anger manifest into rage at that moment but has always shown to be a positive and uplifting person. That's part of the story though. He built himself up to be seen as "regal" and "above the petty stuff". The "right way" a successful black public figure is supposed to act and for others to aspire to. If it was a "ratchet" actor like Mark Walberg or something then it would've have been a big deal in terms of his reputation being sullied. I compared it to the Tiger Woods situation in terms of reputation. Even though he got through that and is still playing golf till this day, we will never see him as the "good ol boy next door" inspirational character he built up over his career

Lost my dad (and my mom) last summer. They were 73/74 years old, God bless them. I am 42 now. Throughout my childhood and early life, he really didn't do much good for me at all. A big role model while growing up for me was my goofy but wonderful Uncle. As we grew up, he fell in love with a manipulative/mentally abusive woman that took everything from him - and he still waits on her and does anything she wants while she is with other men. Much of the way he acts reminds me of one of my favorite TV icons growing up, Will Smith. Its sad to see someone fall in love because you can't control it, and love can make terrible men great and great men terrible. I don't care either way, I am and adult now but still just want my Uncle back.

I Love me some Will Smith. Grew up watching Fresh Prince and enjoyed his 90's music. I will never forget the 1st time I watched this video. At the end, when he looks directly into the camera and says "Daddy loves you, daddy loves you, for the rest of your life", I shed tears. I thought it was such a heart melting gesture, so sweet and loving.
