Will the Circle be Unbroken is an old time/bluegrass standard, perhaps best know from the album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In this fiddle lesson, I give three versions of the tune. First, the basic melody. To this we add some drones and shuffles. Secondly there is an old-style bluegrass solo, which is basically the melody with a lot of double stops, plus some "filler" licks. Finally I show a solo in the style of Vassar Clements, using many of his favourite licks, full of challenging dissonance, double stops and position changing.
Onscreen sheet music is used throughout, and a free pdf of the sheet music is available to subscribers (see below).
