The premier league is a better product because of the share structure thus having more investment in teams to produce better competition. In Spain for far too many years Real Madrid and Barcelona got the lion share of TV revenue making the other teams not able to compete. If they had the foresight to copy the prem share structure then they might have a more competitive product.

That's a delusions because the share structure is basically the same, you roughly have the same top 4 or top 6 based on spending. Share structures doesn't meant shit when in EPL 90% of the time, same teams get way better money. You're waffling when Man C won 4 our of 5 EPL titles & they got a better money reward from winning it.

The Premiere League is just way easier to follow because there is just so much content, streams, pundit, articles available in a language I understand (aka English) while if I want to follow Serie A or La Liga I wouldn't know where to go.

Only thing it breaks is the financial dominance of few clubs who run their league. They also often have the dominance in Europe, and don't want them gone. Their inefficiency is beginning to show, and they're trying to put the blame on someone else; Premier League is the perfect target. I have another question, wouldn't Super League actually literally break European football? Note I'm not only talking about the top clubs here.

The English Premier league's dominance is due to well defined and agreed revenue spread that allows even the smallest clubs to challenge bigger European clubs in the transfer market and in the EPL. Remember, Serie A in the 2000's and La Liga with the Cr7 &Messi dominance era just couldn't take advantage of a huge TV/Broadcast pool they had. All these comes down to bad economics and business practices of these clubs, their ownerships and League boards & Authorities and league regulations.... It's not like the EPL is so dominant in UEFA competitions but these leagues just fear the spending power of not big EPL clubs but middle to lower EPL clubs......the money is so great and consistent that other European clubs can't hold onto their talents and those talents now understand where the real money is and playing in the EPL feels like playing in the global league. Another problem for European clubs is that they are focused more on local talents and not foreign talents thereby making the EPL a truly global hotspot for talents to come and showcase. Ownership is another problem..... The EPL is independent of the English FA and this makes foreign ownership of clubs all too easy. Loose regulations equal increased spending and the spending is just beginning. If German football federation allowed for foreign ownership... Bayern won't be this dominant. They should look within for their problem not blaming the EPL.
@Brotbart
@Brotbart Жыл бұрын
This is a really silly take and it lacks internal logic. You say a problem is the foreign ownership and then go on to say that other countries (Germany) can only blame themselves for not loosening regulations - thereby also becoming part of the problem. Also, other countries have to focus on domestic talents, because international scouting is more expensive and you compete with other (read: English) clubs for signing talents - which continental clubs are going to lose 9/10 times. The focus isn’t by choice.

@@Brotbart I truly believe that if Serie wasn't hit by a massive corruption scandal every 10 years, they would be close to the premier league right now. The last two seasons of Serie A were very entertaining and they were gathering a lot of supporters, but, this season, yet again, we have a massive corruption scandal that affects their reputation. 10 years ago, when La Liga was by far the most successful and rich league in the world, Real and Barca used that to boost their own bank accounts and get a stranglehold on the league. Well, now, the chicken came home to roost. They have 6 interesting games to sell, because the rest of the league was driven into poverty by the same clubs complaining they the league is weak. The fact that in 2021 both Real and Barca received more TV rights money than Man City (the champion), while the last placed la liga team received less than half than what Norwich got. Is this not worrying? A balanced spread of the money would not fix the problem immediately, just how Real and Barca running the league didn't ruin it in a year. Also, the influence that Barca and Real have on mass media is actually scary. 14 years ago Real was buying two ballon d'aur winners in a single summer window. Barca and real were spending 100mil+ 10 years ago, ransacking clubs in europe, even premier league clubs, but no one was talking about salary caps and spending caps back then. Now that they are on the receiving end of that, they have the la liga president publicly coming out and complaining that Real couldn't get mbappe for free. This is wild.

I watch Bundesliga for its authenticity and passion. The country and league reflect my values. From America, I see the premier league becoming more like American sports. Top-down, not grassroots, and more of a Vegas style "show" rather than sport. Premier League markets its self the best, far better than Bundesliga and Serie A. I see Premier League as soulless, and these clubs owned by sovereign wealth funds or Americans who stip the club to pieces, as having no continuity with the club's history. Like ManU today cannot dare claim to be the same club as the "Class of 92" and etc. And honestly they haven't dominated European competition.

The huge disparities between the PL and the other major leagues in Europe stems from the different ways in which their leagues were managed over the last 20-30 years. Serie A allowed corruption to take root, and it involved one of their most successful teams. La Liga decided that 2 teams would receive 66% of the revenue, leaving the other 18 teams to scrape by. The bundesliga restricted private investment with it's 50 + 1 system, and did not do enough to stop the entire league becoming a farm for 1 team. The PL made itself attractive to private investment, maintained a level of fairness when it came to revenue sharing, gave a financial boost to newly promoted teams so that they could catch up or compete, and kept spending in check. The PL just managed itself better than everyone else, and instead of looking to model themselves after the PL and learn lessons, the answer is to pout and cry that it's unfair.
@gentleken7864
@gentleken7864 Жыл бұрын
Your first paragraph is exactly what I was thinking. But I was thinking more of Spain that anyone else. Real and Barca got their 66% of revenue, all the while being criminally run, as has been highlighted by Barca's recent financial troubles. Using their reputation and political connections to borrow and live well outside their means and covid put paid to that way of thinking. But how they've continued has shown they haven't learned a thing. You also have to look at the Spanish third tier's possible collapse, to see how the funding works in Spain.

Liverpool literally finished one point behind City in two of the last four seasons. Did you envision Liverpool and Chelsea struggling in 9th and 10th at the start of the season? The PL is ruthless because if you slip up and hit a bad patch of form you get punished. Anyone can beat anyone, Brentford have beaten Man United, Man City and Liverpool (thrashing both United and Liverpool) and drawn with Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea just this season. You're crackers if you don't think that's competitive.

The only issue I see is the financial dominance that endangers European competitions. However this is bigger than the just the PL being commercial successful. The UEFA competitions are no longer European ones because from the quarter-finals onwards most teams are from the 4 top leagues with some extras from Portugal and Netherlands. The disparities between the squad budgets in European competition need to be addressed either by a salary limit or other means. It's not the PL that destroys other leagues it's the CL that makes difference for the competition in all leagues except for the PL and to a much smaller extent for LL.

Look at Newcastle and Arsenal both clubs have sort of bought below 50m, and have a mix of low cost or home grown, it’s really only ManU, City, Chelsea and Liverpool who go beyond 50m. It’s then Real Madrid PSG and Barca in Europe who go above 50m then look at the % of titles for these clubs vs under 50m per player budget and its a strong investment return indicator that it pays to spend big. I wish it wasn’t and if Arsenal go on to win 🏆 then maybe the indicator switches back to coaching a little.

That provides a boost to smaller countries who will get more back than they put in, creates a degree of parity in one sense, and reduces the enormous income of bigger nations, which is necessary even though they wont like it. The Premier League dominates for 4 specific reasons 1. It's in English and English is the first or second language of everybody who can afford to pay for a subscription. 2. English football is physical and attacking (compared to physical and defensive in Germany, technical and defensive in Italy and technical and attacking in Spain) and this is the easiest kind of football for the uninitiated fan to understand and leads to people supporting teams rather than supporting players. 3. The Taylor Report forced the rebuilding of English grounds to make them safe and inviting for families, casual fans and corporate sponsors, this hasn't happened in most other leagues. 4. The original PL TV deal did not comprehend the financial scale of football on TV and consequently the distribution was very flat making the league as a whole much more competetive, there are no easy matches, Man City away at Wolves or Villa is a game Man City will lose much more easily than PSG will lose at Nancy or Rennes. The Super League is a desperate attempt by the other European Greats (especially Real, Barca and Juve) to try and keep up. This won't work because Juve might be relegated and Barca and Real might be punished by LaLiga.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But are you suggesting that UEFA is tasked with being a regulatory body only and not what it is now, a profit-driven organisation? Because if you are, I agree. The FIA (the regulatory body of motorsport) was forced to sell the F1 brand to Bernie Ecclestone. F1 since the Liberty media takeover is far more sustainable making it more attractive to investors. It is possible that Uefa can enforce regulation on European football as a whole to make it more sustainable for everyone. The only issue being the three remaining Super League clubs are not actually interested in sustainability. They simply want to be able to compete financially with the premier league clubs.

@@jcnjolomba Pretty much.They should be in charge of all the leagues as an overseer and enforce a salary and spending cap (which would be a fixed figure regardless of how much revenue you generate) that all clubs have to follow and the money UEFA generates themselves through the champions league dispersed to smaller clubs and country's across the continent so more clubs can compete. Bascially the're job would be to ensure revenue generation is not what dictates success(which is the case currently)

If PL clubs spend big, they spend it on other European clubs' benefit. It's up to Ajax, Dortmund, Benfica, Sociedad, Inter, Lyon etc. to use it wisely, it's up to other European leagues to better their product.

So you're saying Real Madrid, Bayern, Milan, Inter, Juventus & many big clubs around Europe to turn themselves into clubs that can be farmed & raided by EPL clubs? Mate, that means football is dead in Europe if that happens.

Germany is the only league run properly as a sport as their clubs are actually clubs but unfortunately is restricts growth but they actually have some morals in their league. English football is incredibly morally bankrupt (much more so than all the other leagues) and is benefiting from it, by the end of this season they will have 3 state owned clubs all owned by foreign dictatorships when state ownership of football clubs should not be allowed but sadly is.

The key is competitiveness. Only in the EPL that any team can win anyone in any match. That makes the product unpredictable and interesting. While it does hinder performance in Europe, and unlike their continental counterpart they cannot harvest all the talents in the league, it nonetheless leads to bigger and bigger TV deals that eventually make the team at the bottom of the league financially as competitive as as the so-called big teams in Europe.

@@decode3667 Let's get this straight. The champions of the last decade in the top 5 leagues are as follows: Bundesliga: Bayern 10 English Premier League: Manchester City 5, Chelsea 2, Liverpool 1, Manchester United 1, Leicester 1 La Liga: Barcelona 5, Real Madrid 3, Atlético Madrid 2 Ligue 1: PSG 8, Monaco, 1, Lille 1 Serie A: Juventus 8, Inter 1, Milan 1 Napoli can be the outlier this season in Serie A. Apart from that, I don't see any outliers in any big league anymore. In EPL, arguably Arsenal can replace City as the champions this season. Chelsea and Liverpool aren't even at top 6 at the moment. There are at least 7 teams which can have the budget to go for the title every season (how they perform is another matter). Losing a game or two can happen. Having different teams that can realistically challenge for title is another story. And in any other league, big clubs can almost get the players from teams at the lower table quite easily. I am not sure if it can happen in EPL anymore.

It’s not that easy. The Prem benefits from English being the lingua franca of the world and of a colonial heritage that puts a huge part of the world closer to the UK than to Germany or Italy. This won’t change regardless of football quality. La Liga is so dominant in Latin America for the same reason.

This idea of leagues needing to be balanced is odd to me. When they were more "balanced" it just meant that each league had one maybe two dominant teams at a time. That hurts development as a whole. Also, both Serie A and La Liga served as the dominant league at other times and they were both terribly mismanaged.

I think what they're getting at is that leagues want to disperse revenue more fairly between teams without financially hurting their 'nest eggs' so to speak, La Liga in particular doesn't want hamstring Real & Barca's chances in the CL, which obviously reflects very well upon the league when they win it.
