The public have run out of cash. The big jump >+5% in a month in credit card debt is ominous, isn't it?

Hi David. Ultimately its the ability to draw down on cash reserves which has helped keep inflation high as people continue to pay more for less. While some opt to take on fresh debt to maintain their spending habits, there will be many who hold off on purchases (hence weakness in discretionary vs staples). Hopefully this helps normalise price pressures and soon allows a more growth focused policy outlook.

@@TheJoshmahony I share your hope BUT there are many ways other than interest rates to squeeze consumer credit. I don't blame the victims, I blame the system for the failure. If we (it) wanted to, it could do a lot better pulling and pushing more levers.
