We're the developers of the game! I'm so glad you played it and didn't hate it! We'll look into the soft lock issue you experienced ASAP and if anyone has questions about it or anything, I'll try my best to answer. Quick p.s. The game gets a little crazier as it goes on, so I wouldn't suggest it for children (we're cranky 30 somethings, and our humor is... Well... It isn't for kids... 14 and up I'd say... ) ALSO, I totally agree we need a new cover, the current one was a rush job to get something out in time. I may look into Fiverr or give it another go, but taking more time. Ok, that's it. Thank you again and great video!

There is a game that just came out, called Shashingo or smth like that, you basically fotograph things in a japanese street setting and the game will show you what the word is in japanese, you can also let the game show you random things and you have to fotograph the right thing, neat

Games like these are a fun concept, but in the end it's often just a bit of a drag. For most who probably really want to learn it, would probably use some book or other online resources.

Yup, good point. People may not judge a BOOK by it's cover, but they'll sure as sh** judge a game (or video) by their thumbnails. Neat little blend of learning the language and some customs, though. Thanks, fella~! What sorts of wacky things will Mudan get up to tomorrow?
@gemyellow
@gemyellow Ай бұрын
We need to realize that the entire society is mainly judging book by its cover. Our generation has been taught wrong and now I'm resetting my mindset. Food presentations, job interviews, user interfaces, dress code, ... So yeah, the thumbnail is a fair criticism

Fully agree! Hiragana and Katakana are small sets and contain minimal information, so using visualisation and mnemonic techniques on them is not efficient at all. Rote learn them. Save visualisation and mnemonics for Kanji

Okay so I'm on day 1306 of Duo. I'm just a casual learner who just does it so I can get by when I visit and also just because I really enjoy learning. As well as Duo I use books and a couple other apps (both intermittently) and watch Japanese study KZfaq and play games (mostly otome) with Japanese audio. I saw Ludwig briefly play Shashingo and that looks like a great game to up your vocab, so that's next on my list to try. I know I'm never going to be fluent, tbh I'll be lucky if I ever reach N4, cos I have a stupid brain and other issues but I'm just enjoying the journey, and just hoping when I finally am able to have a Japanese conversation with another human being that I don't just fully blank, or that my stupid lack of confidence doesn't completely eff me up 🤞🏻

I personally don't like duolingo. Mostly because the order in which it teaches things is a bit weird, but I also feel like it's way better at teaching pattern recognition than the actual language.
@ViniuauCP
@ViniuauCP Ай бұрын
Exactly, I've used Duolingo before for English and Japanese and some stuff that come up is really weird. I'll never forget the day I had to translate the quote "The polar bear likes to drink wine". That was when I figured that the app wasn't useful for acquiring the language, only for _maybe_ some review and vocabulary. Immersion works far better in the long run imo.

I’d say this is probably really good for people who have recent interest in Japan if that makes sense. Learning about language elements and culture all at once is a really good idea if you know very little about Japan and would probably hold interest, but if you already know either language points, cultural aspects, or both, it’s probably less viable. As you said, good for kids but I’d also say good for newer interested people and probably teenagers too

Learning any language is hard but going from English to Japanese is real hard. I use Duo, Pimsleur, KZfaq, Twitch streamers, anime, flash cards and Genki textbook/workbook plus a hiragana/katakana writing ✍🏻 book. I’m 6 months into study and I was able to read “I’m sorry” in my Japanese manga and understand it 😅
