The worst part of a rottie is getting over them when they die. I've had many pets cross that bridge, but my rottweiler was so smart, and her presence was so big even when she was just sitting calmly that her absence is heart wrenching. We had to put her down in June, I still have her toys all around. They are such special dogs.

My childhood dog was a Rottweiler. She would always stay and just watch most of the time, but would follow me around in the woods to make sure I was safe. I will never forget how sad she looked at the end of her life, and finally when the news was broken to me. I sat next to her grave for weeks, just trying to play with her again. Something about that dog has always kept her close in my heart. My first taste of grief.

So true. I had neighbours who owned a very sweet dog (absolute sweetie, loved butt scratches from anyone she could get them from) unfortunately got attacked by a rottweiler. Turned out the latter's owner was very irresponsible. Small residence, hardly walked her dog enough that is suitable for the breed, she even thought just tying the rottweiler to a heavy object was sufficient outing for it as part of it's walk.

If you can train raise and lead them. It's like having a loaded gun all the time the first 18 months will tell you a lot about what kind of puppy you got a hold of. I've had four and my fourth one almost bit someone's face off and attacked the other one I had as well as a dog in public thank God she didn't get put down and I will not abandon her or let her go because whatever she is or whatever she isn't we are ultimately responsible for every single bit of her behavior. When she should have been socialized out in public and with other dogs covid hit and we had to keep her indoors so it's been difficult.

Fantastic dogs! Smart, easy to train, will learn good and bad behavior quickly. They're tough. Firm loving correction is is needed. They are trying their best to please their person.. Dangerously strong and determined. Without leadership and direction, they will default to guarding. They are playful even when they get older. They play rough, loud and pretty physical. Looks scary, sounds scary. But a stop growl is different. So is the body language. Their love language is loyalty, being by your side, leaning on you. I am always very careful with both of ours around non family pack people that are not used to handling this breed. And if they are with us in an unfamiliar crowd with lots of strangers, they get to wear a silicone muzzle. Mostly to protect them from being fed and people that can't respect a please don't touch or hug my dog boundary. It's mind boggling. They are not an easy peasy happy go lucky companion dog. I can go on forever - I ❤️ Rottweilers

My step dad had one that I dog-sat for only one week. I loved that dog so much during that time, like we had this immediate connection. Walked it like x5 a day around the lake. Played fetch everyday after breakfast. Put my sleeping bag by its crate and slept next to him every night. I felt like I really had a bond with this dog from the moment we met. The dog was rehomed to my stepdads friend in FL. A year or two later, I had to break into my step dad’s home when no one was home to get access to the garage. To my surprise, as I’m climbing through the window, Cujo the rottie comes running up to me and grabs me with his teeth by my collar, pulls me head first through the window, and slams me to the floor. He started licking my face and howling like crazy because he recognized me right away and couldn’t wait to say hello to his long lost friend. I loved that dog so much and my perception on rotties were forever changed.

In the late 80s, my dad started getting Rotties, ending up with three. Just as highly trained as the first Rottie he'd met, tolerant of children, able to switch from guard to pet on command, loved cuddles, never once aggressive to anyone who wasn't an intruder. All around absolutely stellar companions. The youngest passed when I was a baby so all I know are the stories from my dad and half-sister. My childhood dogs were small, fluffy, and calm.

I have a Rottweiler mix (majority is Rottweiler but mixed with German Shepard, Belgian malinois, chow chow, and golden retriever), he is a rescue and we don’t know what about a third of him is but he is the sweetest dog ever. He can be very stubborn and for a while we thought he wasn’t very smart but then discovered he just chooses when he wants to be smart, he sometimes ignores us and can get a little rough in play but he is the smartest, sweetest and kindest dog, he is pacient and listens very well to other dogs messages(like humping or playing too rough). While not food driven remotely (he will spit out and ignore treats, not regular treats but pepperoni, cat treats, rabbit - literally anything), he tries hard to please us. We have a little 14lb dog (he is about 50lb now and still growing!) who is insainly picky, anxious and often scared of other dogs but she LOVES him, she had trained him how to play respectfully and now they just do the cute growly playful Rottweiler noises to eachother without any rough play. He has brought out a play and affectionate side of her we have never seen. He is affectionate and has a old man/baby look where sometimes he will just whine because he dropped his toy off the couch and is too lazy to jump down and pick it up. I love him so much and couldn’t imagine a better dog!

I’m always happy to hear you talk about Rottweilers. I am no specialist but where I live there are no trainers and I take on some scary dogs. My first Rottweiler was brought in being raised as a kennel dog. Super easy besides she would kill anything small. She would also attack any dog that did not look like her. She’s never attacked another Rottweiler. This girl was 130pounds. I’m 140pounds… two months after getting her I got offered a free Rottweiler. It took me a month to get him. The city was dining the guy 50k for the possession of him due to human attacks. He was raised in a dark garage and was shocked anytime he made any noises. He never saw daylight and when he was finally delivered to me he was massive. He was chained down to the bed of a truck with chains going 4 ways. He had a custom muzzle and harness on and he had huge chain collars and such. He was a big dog but he lived with most of it on him and it was ridiculous and too much. I’ve worked with him a lot and his main problem is he is super sweet but he is so scared to be left alone that if he thinks someone is going to leave he will lunge and bite them. I’ve learned to redirect him once someone is done petting him but I never leave him alone with anyone and in public I muzzle so people ask when they want to pet. Last December my husband bought me my first Rottweiler puppy and I’m excited to raise my own. I currently have 3 purebreds and 10 mixed breeds Rottweilers on top of my lab, pitbul, dachshund and bouvier des flandres

I have a 6 month old rottweiler puppy, and I can say the most challenging thing about them is they’re stubbornness. They’re incredibly smart and catch on quickly but it’s whether are not they want to do what you tell them to do is what makes it difficult to train. Right now we’re working on recall and when she has her mind set on something else it’s really hard to get her to come no matter how excited I get or how many treats I have. Another thing is that they can really lack that attention span. I’ve taught her to make and hold eye contact with me when I say “watch me” or “look at me” and it’s made it easier for me to calm her down and get her to do what I want when I want bc her attention is on me. They also are quit aggressive players not aggressive in the wanting to purposefully harm you way but more that they don’t know they’re own strength, my puppy’s favorite game is tug and she also still gets nippy sometimes when she gets too excited and I’ve had to put her on her side and hold her down and raise my voice at her bc she refused to calm down, I had to put her in that vulnerable position to show her that I’m in charge and I didn’t like it. I didn’t enjoy doing that to her but when she gets super playfully aggressive like that it’s hard to calm her down and she is still a puppy and still learning but it’s crucial that she learns she can’t bite like that even if she’s just playing.

She’s got a deep chest so it’s loud and intimidating, but she’s truly never gone after a person. How do I get her to deal with the specific individuals to make her comfortable with them?

My last baby was a pure Rottie. She was wonderful and passed when she was the ripe old age of 16 which is unheard of for a Rottweiler. We now have a Karelian Bear Dog and he is so smart that it's scary. He's going to take some very intense training.

i really dont like when i see things like these. all these people assume are rottweilers are the same just because they saw a few bad ones in videos. my rottweiler is a great dog, and i can confirm, that they really love their family.

Ive watched my mom work on dogs grooming since ive been alive and around kennels. One thing about rotties is as people bred them more theyve become a 50/50 even after good training for some. And sometimes that "rottie rumble" isnt a rumble. They were either giant babies like the one my cousin had who everyone missed, or extremely random in behavior.

I have a Samoyed, Siberian Husky, Chiweenie, Borador, and a Rottweiler. They all get along but the Rottie is the easiest to train out of all of them! He walks very well on a leash because he sticks by my side and lets me lead!

I haven't ever really met a Rottie before. And, I had only heard from my family's vet that Rottie's can be more tenacious than a Pitt Bull, as far as NOT letting go of a persons flesh once they choose to latch onto a human beings hand or arm ETC. But, when our vet had told us that, we had NOT brought any of those dog breeds in to see him. But, I will admit that I had not forgotten those breeds that the vet had mentioned either. As of now, here in the USA, Rotties are just RARE to see here. For some reason Rotties aren't very popular now. I have 2 mixed breed dogs, and I am not really looking for a new dog. But, I do want to try to help people realize that UNLESS a Rottie or maybe even a Bully Breed dog has been TRAINED to be aggressive, those SAME DOGS will be possibly alert and will want to bark and let you know that maybe somebody is going to come up to your family's door. And, to me, that is really a GREAT THING. But, now, I am here and seeing and hearing ALL of the video here. But, although Rotties are a bit Mysterious to me, UNLESS my vet is 100% CORRECT about Rotties being able to be "Even more ferocious than PittBulls" , although I have ONLY seen and interacted with "SWEET Pitt Bulls". I really do NOT want to judge ANY dog or person wrongly. So, sorry, I am just going to choose to judge Rotties and even any Pitt Bulls that might be mentioned here as being Good Pooches. And, I very much DOUBT that I will have any reason to say any thing negative about them.

Actually they are one of the most easiest dog breeds to train, because they catch on fastly when you start to train in specific things. I have 2 Rottweilers that I have had for 5 years and they are the most loyal affectionate and protective dogs, I have had! I have trained them myself and they are very well behaved. Other people use different training techniques so that could be why you’re having a hard time training your Rottweiler but I’m just saying they are one of the most easiest so yeah.

I used to have a 140lb rottie, by the time he was 18 months, not fat, but pure beast, if I dropped a plastic bag this dude would be like "wtf" the greatest friend I've ever had. Would sleep beside my bed when I was sick and protected me from another rottie going for me. I miss Alfie guys

YES! I have such a hard time finding a vet that is comfortable with my make rott. They are SO scared of him, despite trying to act like they aren’t. And I know this because the time’s I’ve asked if I could have him boarded at his facility and bathed, they refused and said it was cause he growled at them when they gave him his shots🙄

I’ve consistently read and heard that Rottweilers are difficult to train. I currently have my fourth Rottweiler and my third Labrador. In my limited experience my Rottweilers have been easier to train, far more attentive and eager to please. The Labs haven’t been especially difficult, just more into their own pursuits - when their noses kick in, their ears stop working completely. My current Rottie is definitely a bit more stubborn than her predecessors. The fault is entirely my own. I had health issues when she was a puppy and she didn’t get the training that she deserved. She loves training sessions, is very bright and likes learning, always eager to do new things. She has no aggression towards anyone or anything. She’s a slave to her stomach and will do anything for a treat.

Having trained Rotts for Service Dogs, used one as my personal SD and taken them out in public for normal life(grocery shopping, library visits, ect...) I can fully agree about other people's misconceptions. The stigma is the most challenging part of training and working a Rottweiler, hands down.

The worst thing is, that if you're a terrible owner - the Rottie has such incredible bite force, it becomes a serious danger. And that's exactly what makes them attractive to terrible owners.

I take my rotty to the park and let her off the lead to throw a ball. She sometimes gets distracted and wants to say hi to other dogs. (We're working on this). The fear on peoples faces as she comes up to say hi is so embarrassing. People will see their life flash before their eyes and started yelling. Im not even kidding. She has never shown aggression and is the sweetest dog.

Same, same. One of our dogs is hyper extroverted and stubborn as hell so I keep her on a flexi lead with a harness always and it works alright. maybe just have her on one of those and pick who she plays with. You don't want her bit by small dog syndrome hahah. It's funny bc our dogs aren't the danger little ones are the aggressive ones but you never can tell with big dogs if they have bad owners.

Believe it or not my two rotties are the best dogs I EVER had because of the versatility and loving and caring nature of the breed, and I had many dogs breeds ranging from French, English , and even American bulldogs, mastiffs, Shepards, Pitbulls, huskies, Great Danes and many more. Most people won’t get or understand their loud aggressive Happy deamanor and their playfulness until they actually own one. They are one of the most loving and genuinely caring dog breeds I came across but they show love in many different ways often slightly aggressive ways like a low growl or bumping into your legs rubbing their bodies on you but nothing malicious !! They’re behavior is commonly misunderstood because of the intimidating gaze, the size and sheer strength of the breed and are most times categorized as aggressive and or threatening and most people base their overall feelings, opinions, and decisions off society’s rumors and misconceptions but never had an encounter of their own and won’t take a chance on the Rottie just based off of that. Most times when the Rottie is a bad dog or has any problems whether it be social or commands it’s not them or their faults. Some might be more active or aggressive than others but ALL can be taught the right way. They are probably top 3 if not 1 of the smartest dogs I’ve dealt with have personally. It all starts from somewhere it’s 10/10 the owners fault. There is no such thing as a bad dog by default , but if their owner doesn’t take the time and effort and commitment REQUIRED to put into this breed they will almost always learn very bad and aggressive habits and tendencies being (self taught) because of the characteristics of this breed they are territorial by default it is in their blood! It is just like a kid if you don’t guide and teach right from wrong starting from a young age the kid will also learn bad habits and tendencies and almost always turn out to be bad because these self taught habits are all the know and they were never taught properly! It’s not the kids/dogs fault it’s the parents/owners fault entirely sad to say !!!

My dog is best friends with a rottweiler. Its amazing to see. The first time the rottweiler came running up full sprint (i am not scared of any specific breed i scan the dog and owner when i meet them to know if i can trust the dog) my dog doesnt like bouncy dogs so she growled with the rottweiler still 5 meters away. It stopped right in its tracks and layed on the ground waiting for my dog to come over so they could meet. Rottweilers are great dogs and I love them, tho its not my breed to live with

My dog is part Rottweiler, part Mastiff, and she was incredibly easy to train considering that while at the Humane society she went to a training program where she was trained by an inmate. One of my parents' neighbors I had a purebred Rottweiler named blaze, and he was the sweetest and biggest boy I've ever met. We would go over for a party or something, and he would lay right at my feet because he knew I would pet him and give him kisses. I love rottweilers. I really do think my success in training my dog has to do with the training she received in the sheriff paws academy. The inmate that trained her did an incredible job. She is very loving, laid back, and her favorite thing to do is lay out in the sun on her back, snoozing. She really only likes one toy, and that is her Kong squeaky ball. She has multiple in the yard, but she always goes for the one that is the dirtiest. She will straight up reject any of the cleaner balls. If she destroys the dirty ball, and we throw it away, she will go for the next dirtiest ball. She's hilarious and I love her to bits. She was at the Humane society for almost 2 years, being left there at a very young age. Her previous owner said that she wasn't good with other dogs, has she and another dog in the house did not get along. I was told by the staff at the Humane society that people would pass her up saying she looked mean. She has never had an issue with any other dog that she has met, and she has never shown our family any aggression. You can literally lay down with her on the floor and cuddle up for a nap. If she gets along amazingly well with my grandmother's dog. My grandmother passed away a few months after I got her, and our family took in her two dogs. The older one passed away a year later, and the younger one is now my dog's best friend. When we take one out to either go to the groomer or the pet store, the other lays around and watches the front door waiting for their best friend to come walking in.
