When I got my dog, I wouldn't praise him for doing his business outside, but instead, I marked and rewarded the action. He got it within a week, but there were still accidents here and there. He's 9 months old and not my first dog, but he still has accidents whenever I take him to my mums house and even show him where to do his business. The "break" command is also really easy to train and takes a couple of days in some cases. I even use it whenever I let him off his lead, but it did take him a little while to understand that that command allows him to have some freedom as it was mainly used for allowing him access to his food.

I have been watching your videos since last night! I just adopted a black lab puppy today from a shelter and he's doing good so far! At this writing, he's in his crate taking a nap. You've been very helpful! Definitely subscribing! Just wanna ask if you have videos on when or how many times a day to feed a 3-month old lab and the best diet for them.

Thanks, guys - very helpful nd interesting. I had my chocolate lab, Bosco, for 15 years, and she was my best friend. I got her before I met my wife so it was pretty easy for me to be her Alpha and, when I did get married and had a child, she still always looked to me first. Bosco has been gone for 9 years, now and our second daughter is old enough that we have decided to get a new chocolate lab puppy next summer. I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but is it important for me to impress upon our new puppy that I will be her Alpha? I'll be spending the most time with her, I think, but I want her to enjoy and obey my wife and daughter, too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hi Tim, thanks for watching! It's so exciting you're getting a new puppy and it's great you're thinking about training so far ahead. We would recommend there being a lead trainer that takes on the bulk of the training, however obviously it's good to have the rest of the family on the same page so the dog has consistency while they are learning what is your desired behaviour from them. How about if my puppy is painfully shy to the point he doesn’t want to eat. It’s been 24 hours and he’s still sad from leaving mummy and siblings

You've probably already figured it out seeing as it's been 2 years, but the best way I found with my dog was to either put him in his crate if he was being too much or to simply ignore him and to tell him "no" whenever necessary.
