I built the original design and added the Huskeylens for face and object ID and added the person sensor. Thanks for this. I will try it on my next one. Also go to Amazon and use these eyes "LIFANOU Half Round Eyeballs 33mm - 1 Pair Realistic Acrylic Fake Eyes for Halloween Props, Dolls Crafts, Cosplay and Party Decoration (Brown)" . You have to sand them down a little to make them fit.

i suggest you to look into esp32d1 mini boards for the wireless board, they are cheap and small but nativel;y support BT and WIFI, on top of having the ESP NOW protocol to talk between each other, they also are 3.3v board so the remote could be powered by a tingle li-ion cell and have the standard usb charger pcb

I'm trying not to swear, but that is (BLEEPING) amazing! I was already impressed with the original design, but this is a very welcome upgrade. I don't think I've ever seen another eye mech that moved so smoothly and realistically.

Brilliant work! I know people in the puppet community would 100% buy finished versions of this. I also think there is a version of this that is rod controlled, no servos required. Not a cable, a solid rod. The rod is pushed up and down, and the eyes move up and down, this fits in the neck. But left to right? Solved by the rod controlling that via being rotated left and right. Horns, like on a servo, attach to the eyes via a linkage system etc. I know puppet people like big eyes, that are sometimes more than 50% out of the head. If the eyes are held in place by rubber bands the eyes can stick out further, and the rod mech doesn't need to have a middle axis because the sphere eyes are being pulled into a socket, that acts like a ball bearing, creating the axis. Just putting this into your head....

I've found using a bushing from delrin/HDPE/teflon eliminated a lot of my weak points in snap-fit assembly prints. It also meant a number of my snap-fit components were planar, and could be laser cut from different materials.

Never thought of it like that, it sounds odd, but I think it is dead right! I watch a lot of KZfaq engineering content, (too much according to camp mother) and the ones that are most memorable are usually cool! 😊
@edwardpaulsen1074
@edwardpaulsen1074 2 ай бұрын
Coolness may be one of the big factors of engineering, but coolness won't matter if it doesn't work, or breaks too easily... another factor of the DFA should also include possible repairs if it is a high ticket item... or difficult to access... Nobody wants that $1000 animatronic if it is a pain to get into and/or breaks down every couple of days. Sometimes you need a mixture of both to achieve both ease of assembly as well as durability and consistency.

Will, it's nice to see that you're still refining your designs. If you would like to have your designs be able to be used in real world applications, there are a few tweaks that need to be made. The issues I'm running into is that they simply don't fit in most applications. If you want a more "universal" type design that can actually be put in animatronics, the eyes and lids and the mounting brackets for them need to be extended at least 1/2" to 3/4". The problem is clearance issues. They should fit easily in the orbits of the eye sockets. When using them in human 😉animatronic heads, especially skulls, they don't fit.

Another cost-down/simplification could be to allow for the MCU to be soldered instead of putting the Arduino on. With a bit of luck the JLC library does have the same or a 100% compatible clone. You probably do not need most of the other components on the Arduino anyways.
