"Matte" or "Silk" PLA filaments are typically weaker than normal PLA.

Hey Will Cogley, is there any way to make it in different sizes and with only the top eyelid each eye? I'm trying to develop some animatronic things.

Another great video Will, now hear’s a challenge, can you incorporate a pair of cameras in to those eyeballs? Stereo vision would be a fantastic next step. Also Will as you’ve now hit the 100K subscribers 🎉 where’s your KZfaq Play Button?

Thanks Will - The mech was printing overnight and I have just started the eyeballs - very grateful for the 3mf files too. Cant wait to order some boards - well done on the design.

I'm trying not to swear, but that is (BLEEPING) amazing! I was already impressed with the original design, but this is a very welcome upgrade. I don't think I've ever seen another eye mech that moved so smoothly and realistically.

I've found using a bushing from delrin/HDPE/teflon eliminated a lot of my weak points in snap-fit assembly prints. It also meant a number of my snap-fit components were planar, and could be laser cut from different materials.

Nice update! But man, upgrade your life and start using PETG by default. Ditch the PLA, it even makes prints sound like they're brittle, compared to the plasticky flexibility of PETG.

Also curious why PETG wasn't tested. Is it too flexible for this application?

I can't help but think, that all this is incredibly noisy and annoying to listen to. That's the problem with these highly geared tiny motors. Really, you need artificial muscles.

since you value coolness so much, you sould put cameras into the eyes and then make them stare at people with facial recognition. then you put that in a painting and hang it in an art gallery and whenever some one says "it's almost like the eyes follow you" then the painting rolls its eyes

Fantastic design!!! I'm currently printing this after ditching the screwed version due to a lack of parts. Question for my non-tech brain, can this be used with a Pololu maestro board to add automation?

If you add more meat or a palm or some type of bracket for the fingers to have more surface to catch things on it’ll help it a lot, after all it’s basically a skeleton compared to our meaty hands that have better grip of objects

I personally don't understand the appeal of designing a custom controller for most DIY arduino projects... like you can get a gaming joystick that snaps on to your phone and then just write a Unity App -- just pair your phone with the bluetooth reciever in your ESP8266 or ESP32 Arduino (srsly, we're talking about a 5 d0llar part -- and you're just replacing one part with another that's the same price at the end of the day) and then you just send it serial commands directly over bluetooth... -- The best part of this is that in remote control, which you wasted zero time or energy building, you already have a large capacitive IPS touch screen, internet access, data logging, physical joysticks and trigger buttons, and wireless charging... all in one compact device... and you didn't have to do anything but write the software -- heck if you need a dedicated controller and that's your excuse, you could even do it on your old phone or a grocery store burner phone. -- Bluetooth is fast enough that game consoles use it for their controllers now, and nobody is complaining about lag or speed. -- It's just fast, and this is just easy and works well.

Sorry for writing I'm not that good at writing English. I have an idea that I thought would be fun if possible. I wonder if it was possible to make the eyes look together and away from each other. perhaps with a small threaded rod between the eyes. Greetings Jacob. p.s. Thanks for some great videos.

Very impressive but... ...personally I'd stick to the design with screws. Steel screws would be stronger, more reliable and take less space. Also one could then stick to generic PLA. Assembly time would only be a big deal if one were mass producing these. I'd be far more concerned with future disassembly and reassembly if this is a hobby project.
