Williams Grove Railroad, Only operating Pennsylvania Railroad steam loco, June 2023

My visit to the Williams Grove steam railroad, I have been wanting to see this engine for years and finally got to. 0-6-0 B4a No. 643 is currently the only operating Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotive in the world. This engine is easily now one of my favorite standard gauge steam engines as I tend to like smaller engines and love the Pennsylvania railroad.

Despite the little engine runs on half a mile of track I’ve heard there’s long term plans to make a loop of track for 643 to run on. Still, it’s a great engine.

Very nice. I went to college a few miles from where the Williams Grove Railroad is located, but unfortunately did not learn about the railroad until well after I had graduated.

Thanks, that's a slope back tender, they were used a lot on American switcher engines for better visibility.

LV Coal 126 should meet up with PRR 643 for a future doubleheader. That would be awesome!

Lucky. I went to the Williams Grove Railroad in August last year to see 643 run, but she sadly wasn't running due to a mechanical issue.

fantastic little engine. This is the only railroad I know of that uses caboose markers for Class lights on an engine that probably would not have had class lights on it! LOL It is really awesome to see such an old engine running. Very nice. :)

Fun fact! The marker lights actually can be used for the engine or the caboose, which of course we decided to use them on the engine

@@EastboundProductions643 Well, I don't know about PRR rules as I am a B&O guy, but the marker lights used on a locomotive in the B&O rule book would be used on the rear of the tender. If put on the engine smoke box, it would be because the engine was running backwards as a helper engine. I am not trying to be a jerk here and the PRR rule book might be different than the B&O one was for sure. Still great little engine and very cool to see her run. :)

@@s16100 Yup I know your not being a jerk. Yes the engine would of not used markers on PRR, but when the boiler was replaced the steel mill most likely added brackets on smokebox for markers of some sort. So yes she had her original boiler we might not have markers on. But we decide to put them on since she looks kind of weird with out them

@@baldwinloco12 Same here nice talking to you. The Reading and Northern ran it's first run of the year this past Saturday I wasn't able to make it. It will run on August 13th and September 2nd. 2023. Just wanted to let you know in case you can make it. Thanks for responding.

Quite shocked that Williams grove rr has only two flatcars for passenger service plus the two cabooses.

I grew up about 1 mile from here. Years ago they had several old wooden passenger cars setting along the back of the property. (70's) Over the years they were allowed to rot away until someone lit them on fire, very sad indeed.
