Garden centres sell a chemical rooting hormone, however it carries warnings such as "don't use on edible plants" - but there is another option, Willow Tea, Organic Rooting Hormone. This home made rooting hormone is cheap (free) and easy to make.
Subscribe to my channel, I'll be doing a follow up video comparing Willow Tea Organic Rooting Hormone with other Organic Rooting Hormones.
Rooting hormones speed up the process of taking cuttings and cloning plants, and increase the cloning success rate, by speeding up the rooting process. I would never want to use a rooting powder or rooting gel which isn't organic, willow tea should do the trick because willow leaves contain a natural rooting hormone.

Just an FYI - If you notice on the side of the bottle that you displayed in your video, the active ingredient is Indole-3-butyric acid, This is, in fact, the very substance you are extracting from the willow tree!! Schutz's TakeRoot(TM) which anyone can find at Home Depot does not have the warning about using it on edible plants - though it does say to keep away from children. However, this is what the EPA fact sheet has to say about this, "With the exception of certain workers, no harm is expected from use of indole-3-butyric acid. The active ingredient is not toxic to humans or other mammals. Furthermore, indole-3-butyric acid is effective at very low concentrations--often several orders of magnitude below 1%. It is applied at very low rates compared with most other pesticides. In animals, indole-3-butyric acid is rapidly broken down to a closely related, harmless chemical that occurs naturally in living organisms. Eye irritation to certain workers is EPA' s only health concern for products containing indole-3-butyric acid. For products that may cause eye irritation, workers (such as mixers and applicators) are required to use protective eyewear, such as goggles, face shield, or safety glasses." So the reason you want to keep it away from children is so they don't get it in their eyes! But when the day is done, this is a chemical agent, and I would suggest that anyone read the labels to anything they use, and take the necessary precautions. I myself would use easy to get nitrile gloves, not so much out of caution for the chemical, but rather respect for good practices! And that goes for whatever people might extract from the willow bark as well!

I totally agree with you. People are so silly with all this DIY organic stuff. In my opinion it's not worth the time invested to make it organically. I'd rather just buy the stuff and have it whenever I need it vs having to drive to the nearest willow tree and brew this stuff every time I wanna clone something. Gimme a break. It's ridiculous. People need to do a little more research

I love this idea... I will keep an eye out for your experiment... you said if we had any other ideas to let you know... well I have a Willow (not sure its type) and I use the leaves as a tea for transplanting... In a five gallon bucket I fill with water I add the green leaves and some branches, then let it soak for a couple of days and when transplanting a small tree or bush in my yard I pour it in the hole then cover. I guess it would be that I am helping with transplant shock. :)

If One didn't have access to a willow tree whenever the need arises to make willow tea, could the leaves be harvested all at once and some of the branches frozen for a while and still work?
