I fully understand why he did that. But it still didn't make that day any less sad when he passed away. I think if there are celebrities I truly miss, the first four on the list have to be Gene Wilder, Robin Williams, Betty White and Fred Rogers. All of them were just such brilliant and kind people. Knew how to make you laugh, think about things in a different way and just showed love to the world. They were some of the best examples of what humanity needs to strive for.

For me, there will never be another Willy Wonka. The Tim Burton version might have been more book-accurate, but nothing can ever come close to the world of pure imagination. "We are the music-makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." RIP Gene. You are sorely missed, and greatly loved.

The Gene Wilder version had the overview of Roald Dahl himself, so it might not be book accurate but it has the magic and overall message that Dahl intended. Like notice how at the end everything in Wonka's office was in half, a metaphor for him feeling like something isn't complete, such as a legacy to pass onto who became Charlie

One thing I've enjoyed about this gem is that there's a sub theme to it which is used as an allegory to the 7 Deadly Sins. Augustus Gloop: Gluttony Mike Teevee: Sloth Veruca Salt: Greed Charlie Bucket: Envy The people searching for the golden tickets: Lust Willy Wonka: Wrath Violet Beauregarde: Pride 27:12: He's speaking French. He's saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, now we are going for a great little boat trip. Do you want to come on the Wonkatania?". 29:02: Now he's speaking German. He's saying "My dominions, please give me your attention. You now come into the most interesting room of my factory, the most secret room at the same time. Ladies and Gentlemen: The Inventing Room".

Yes, and the reason Charlie and Grandpa "steal" some of the fizz drink (which many think was a mistake in the story) is to show that everyone is stained with sin and no one is perfect. The difference is whether you learn and whether or not your malicious/openly accepting of that sin (or unintentionally/thoughtlessly sinful). Too man y shows/stories today want their protagonists to be flawless heroes. Part of the reason we're a society full of holier-than-thou narcissists.
@agenttheater5
@agenttheater5 Жыл бұрын
in Charlie's case his Envy is more understandable since he has next to nothing. Still I guess the main point was that he didn't let that envy consume him - apart from the fizzy lifting drink he didn't take anything that wasn't his, he didn't lie to anyone, he didn't shirk from his responsibilities from his family, he kept an open mind and seemed to prefer optimism, curiosity, imagination and excitement to skepticism and criticism, and he even still tried to help others ie he was the only one to try and find something for Augustus to grab onto. In fact I think those two chocolate bars were the first things he ever bought that were just for himself.

The Johnny Depp version is a retelling of the book by the author Roald Dahl. Apparently Dahl really disliked the original movie. The newer one is much more like Dahl vision. While I like Johnny Depp, I think it falls short of this one, no doubt because Gene Wilder’s performance is magical.
@walteralcaraz5898

The Depp version is much closer to the original novel. This Disney version, while good, changed a lot of what happened and left out a lot. We are left to intimate that Charlie accepted Willy Wonka's proposal to take over the factory, but in the book and the Depp version he did not. Willy Wonka DID reconcile with his father afterwards, and his father was indeed a dentist. The Wonka movie coming out later this year is supposed to in essence be a prequel to these movies, showing how Willy Wonka created everything and encountered the Oompa-Loompas. How Willy Wonka became "Willy Wonka". Like "Oz the Great and Powerful" showed how "The Wizard" and all the Witches came to being, so that movie was essentially a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz". "Wonka" is a prequel of this movie and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (the actual title of the book). So, if you like Disney-like fantasy, then this 1971 film will be preferred. If you are one that wants them to stay as close to the original novel and premise as possible, then the 2005 remake with Depp with the actual book title would be more to your liking. I prefer the Oompa-Loompas in this 1971 version though. I like the songs better. Although the songs they sing in the 2005 version are much closer to what they sang in the book. Also, to me the kids in the 1971 version are better. Especially Veruca Salt. The 1971 version is much whinier and brattier than the 2005 version. Perfect for an awful kid like Veruca.

Gene Wilder was such an epic genius. The comic timing and improv of a master. He's the only Wonka the world would ever need (besides the book because, of course) He improvised the whole poem(?) in the boat tunnel and created his own entrance outside the factory. In fact, that trick entrance was his only stipulation for doing the movie. The newer version with Depp & Burton is NOT a part 2. It's just a stranger and much darker reboot of the classic. A little closer to the book but definitely not as much charm and wonder. Also, the Wonka movie that's coming out is it's own thing as well. A prequel. A bit brighter and lighter by the trailers but we'll still have to wait to see about it.

1. I first saw it when I was 10. 2. Ronald Dahl the book author was a well-known LSD user. (you can see why). He als didn't like this adaptation of his book. That's why we got the Tim Burtin/Johnny Depp remake. 3. The Umpa Lumpas told the reverent portion of the story. Anything beyond that would have been unnecessary and overkill. 4. I suspect Wonka knew which children would win the tickets (lessons for our behalf) because Slugworth was at the scene almost immediately. 5. Many people (especially women) seem to get a creepy feeling from Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. 6. This is the only roll Peter Ostrum/Charlie. He's now a veterinarian. 7. After reading the script, Gene Wilder said he would take the role of Willy Wonka under one condition: that he would be allowed to limp, then suddenly somersault in the scene when he first meets the children. When director Mel Stuart asked why, Wilder replied that having Wonka do this meant that "from that time on, no one will know if things are real or not." Stuart asked, "If I say no, you won't do the picture?" and Wilder said, "I'm afraid that's the truth." 8. Fun fact: Veruca/Julie Dawn Cole didn't have any adult with her when they went to Germany to film the movie so Gene Wilder himself stepped in to make sure she was taken care of.😎 9. You can get away with anything in a musical.

Inn case anyone is wondering the other four children are fine. We see them at the end of the book (and the 2005 movie). Augustus is covered in chocolate and the pipe squeezed him so tight he's now thin, the chocolate will wash off. Wondering if he'll still want that lifetime supply of chocolate. Violet got squeezed back to her normal size but she's purple. There might be a chance that that will wash off....eventually. Veruca and her dad are covered in rubbish but it's nothing 4 or 5 baths won't fix. In any case they're completely unburned. In the 2005 movie her dad finally put his foot down. Mike got a little overstretched in the taffy pulling room so now he's really really tall and really really thin, but as Mr Wonka pointed out, now every basketball team int he world will be begin him to join, plus he'll be able to play the piano with his feet now.

The original book back in the 1920-40s was originally made to be a black main character as Charlie. (In part the idea was Charlie a kid of the city who’s family suffers poverty from city conditions and well the life of being black back then and how racism/paper contracts/legal matters etc all resulted in these conditions which a kid doesn’t comprehend fully but lives in and sees everyday. Inheritance is a legal matter, but for kids that paper contract isn’t really comprehended. inheriting the entire factory which they tour and see is a glimpse at that totality of the contract/legal matter of which are unseen. A factory which not only runs the city and the work forces in that area but in part is the inheritance of sugar - chocolate from South America mixed with milk from Europe and sugar from the colonies/countries that were colonized. All to make a sweet to be enjoyed and not really think about how it was made but that it brings joy to the current moment. The author wanted to have a main black character because there was such few media representation at the time and such few positive ones where something good happens to the character. Due to publishers back in the day the characters were made to be rewritten as white so that it’s less of a conversation conflict or as deep of a story over all. Altho the tones and underlying themes are really really obvious when you think about how that original Charlie influenced final film and book versions. In the films the Charlie family always connected to poverty of Ireland/Europe and themes related to that- less of an American city/British city perspective/frame/set up

I didn't really care for the Johnny Depp remake. But that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it. Everybody's tastes are different.

It would make a great YT short or TikTok for you guys to show just the Veruca scenes to your parents and see what they think about her. Any parents who see this movie for the first time always have great reactions to her tantrums :P

The song Candy Man became a signature tune for Sammy Davis Jr! You should give it a listen.

gene wilder and the director never warned the other actors what he was going to do on the boat. so they thought he was raving mad lmao.

This was my favourite film when I was a child. If I’m ever feeling blue I throw this film on and the jokes have me laughing again. Sammy Davis Jnr. had a hit with the song Candy Man. The flower cup that Gene Wilder drank from and then ate was made out of wax. In an interview Gene Wilder said that when he ate the cup he had to wait for the director to say cut before he could spit it out.

Willie Wonka walking out of the factory like he had a bad leg and then doing the summersault and walking normally was Gene Wilder's idea. He said he wanted to make his entrance that way because then nobody would be able to tell whether he was lying or telling the truth. The cast's reaction in the tunnel scene was real. When Willie starts singing, some of the cast thought Wilder was having a psychotic episode. When they rehearsed the scene near the end where Willie tells Grandpa Joe and Charlie that they broke the rules and stole fizzy lifting drinks, Gene Wilder played the scene as more disappointed than angry, so then when they filmed the scene and Gene starts yelling at them, Peter Ostrum's (Charlie) and Jack Albertson's (Joe) frightened reaction was real.

I love the sense of wonder I your reaction. In the Chocolate Room, Wonka is speaking French. He is aging, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are going to take a little boat trip. Would you board the Wonkatania.*. Outside the Onventing Room, he is speaking German, baducally telling the remaining guests they are entering the dream center ov hid factory, from what i can gather. Gene Wilder was fluent in both languages

Great job ladies I’m glad you enjoyed it. I did too. It was fun to watch with you. John Depp version. Is it remake version movie it’s like it never happened the same story over again but John does much more scary. He hates kids. Gene Wilder loves kids. The new one is called Wonka and. Willie Wonka before he gets the factor and meets the worker’s Travel in the world. I’m having chocolate
