Hi Petro! Spot on! By jumping ahead of the rest Wilson really do have a great chance to get clubs in peoples hands. I’ve spoken to a couple of fitters since about it and they’ve said they’ve used it for iron fittings to get to a baseline quicker (eg game improvement vs players distance irons and likely shaft weights and flex) for a customer and then try other heads after the Wilson so you’re guaranteeing they get the Wilson in their hand which maybe they wouldn’t otherwise! I know Ping have released something similar for Wedges recently so I’m sure in 1-2 years it’ll be a brand agnostic bit of kit for fitters but for now a great opportunity for Wilson to leverage some unique competitive advantage! 👍🏼

I have played Wilson irons ( nd a driver with the fat shaft ) and loved them and whenever I have updated my irons it have been a choice of either Mizuno and Wilson. Mizuno has a similar fitting where you use a club that measures your swing ( you do select the club head of your choice ) and it gives the haft options best suited for your swing. This year I will update my irons as it been 6 years since last time. Will it be the new Wilsons or Mizunos?

Absolutely Pete! I think we can hear about how AI is helping with club design but it’s hard to bring that to life! When you get to see and play with tech like this and see how quick and good it was then it really does show it off to its fullest potential! Give it 1-2 years and I’m sure there’ll be a version of this for all clubs in the bag and all brands! 👍🏼

Absolutely Jeff! I think it’s also a great tool for a fitter too as I think it gets them to a ‘good’ starting point to get new clubs into the customers hand quicker into the fit! It wouldn’t surprise me if lots of places use it in combination with a TrackMan or similar and then work off the recommendation, which even if they do that is great for Wilson as it gets their club in your hand first. @@weekendtourpros cobra air x, not as delofted as a lot of brands these days including Wilson, but my game has improved a lot since I started gaming them, started out getting about 150 with my 7 now I'm confident from 165 although I use hybrids from 5 h down again cobra air x but have just fell in love with my new pxg gen 6 0311 #2 hybrid.

When I was fitted for irons the staff were not allowed to fit for Wilson clubs. Wilson only allowed their own fitters to come in by appointment. Maybe that is why so little Wilson clubs are fitted and sold.

Hi Keith! Thanks for sharing that experience! I wonder if that’s a regional or a historical thing? In my area, Wilson clubs are fitted by many local fitters and not Wilson staff… if there is inconsistency that wouldn’t be ideal and would back up your point! All the best! 👍🏼

To your point, I can see open market fitters using this tech. to help them get to the answer quicker for the customer, which will include starting with a Wilson head and then trying others from there. A win-win for Wilson as it'll get their product in more people's hands, promote their tech and fitters will get the benefit too of getting to answers quicker! 👍

It’s crazy isn’t it John! I’m sure it will be getting rolled out across Wilson fitters around the world in the future and my prediction is that before long a similar piece of kit will universally be available which each fitter can input all the club options they sell and then it’s brand agnostic! But for now, fair play to Wilson for leading the way! I think Ping have just launched similar type tech for wedge fittings too. So it’s definitely the future of fittings! 👍🏼

Hi Andy! I hear you and get the points! My assessment is that this is v1.0 of this technology which is super new and I’m more thinking ahead to the future… My prediction is that give it a couple of years there will be brand agnostic versions of this technology which only recommend the heads and shafts of the brands available at your fitting location, but based on fitters near me, that could be 50+ heads and 200+ shafts! So the ability to dial that down to 3-5 heads and 2-3 shafts quite quickly could be beneficial to customer and fitter and get relevant new product in the customers hands quickly. With the machine learning of the final decisions being fed back in, allowing the tech. over time to potentially getting that even more dialled in! It might also be able to recommend a golf ball that could help too or give advice on bag set up (e.g. playing longer irons or moving to hybrids at a certain point). As we touched on this isn’t designed to replace the fitter and their expertise or remove how customers like looks or feels but more compliment it and I think in 2-3 years time this could be the standard! I think the key thing here is it’s designed to give a recommendation and not the final answer and the Blast sensor is providing the data but it’s the Wilson algorithm that’s taking that and analysing it and doing the machine learning based on how accurate the recommendation was vs the final result! 👍🏼

Hi Boyd! Yes that’s exactly what would happen next! The idea is all fitters with access to this tech are Wilson approved and stock the full line of heads and shafts so you’d get your recommendation then they’d build that club and inside 10-15 mins you’re hitting it and fine tuning from there in the 45 mins you have left! As Dan touches on there’s the AI recommendation but the fitter still needs to work with you to ensure that’s the perfect recommendation as looks, feels, and nuances of delivery all play a part! I believe there was a study done that found that Club Champion fit over 90% of customers with the most expensive shafts. Their fitters work on commission.
