He was number 1 back then at 21 holding the US Open and Wimbledon titles won in a 9-month period. Incredible to think he would never go on to win another Grand Slam or participate in another Wimbledon final...

He never won another Grand Slam because of Federer. Nadal and Djokovic also came up too so it was harder for him to win or even make another Grand Slam final especially at Wimbledon. He lost in the 2004 US Open final and lost in the 2005 Wimbledon SF to Federer

Federer kept improving after 2002 while Hewitt reached his limit when he won his 2 Grand Slams. He didn't manage to improve his game. Later on Nadal and Đoković appeared so Hewitt just couldn't be a contender to win Grand Slams anymore.

Except he just beat a top ten guy. That's why you and I don't understand the mind of a champion. Lleyton loves to compete. He's been looking for this recent victory over a top ten player for two years, he's motivated by the competition, not looking good or being as good as he was.

He's a legend, but seriously man he should retire. Watching him getting shitter and shitter is cringeworthy
