Guys this series is my new favourite. Ever since it came out I've been watching it obsessively and practicing these openings. Since then my rating has gone to 1250 (from 1350). I can't remember ever being this mad.

I love Aman's approach to these speed runs. He slows down to explain moves, sometimes at the cost of winning the game. Lots of other streamers I watch do not value the educational component of the game if time starts to get tight and the game is close, but Aman doesn't give a fuck about the win. He prioritizes finding educational moves and providing explanations for them. Great stuff.

i always hear you guys talk about controlling light squares or dark squares, putting pawns on opposite color of your bishop etc, but for some reason that shit just goes out my brain during a game
@vincentvdw3990

that's cuz you're just passively listening to their advice while watching the video. Next time you're in a chess game (longer format for comfort) try to purposely control the dark/light squares. you'll learn more that way added with analysing your games

@@oliverjackson3761 how is it racist tho?
@oliverjackson3761
@oliverjackson3761 2 жыл бұрын
@@alv2724 @Alv Jerome is commonly perceived as a "black name," and the video is peppered with jokes alluding to that, often playing on existing negative stereotypes of black people. I can't speak to Aman's intentions, but this is just typical racist frat bro behavior, the same douchey archetype they (ironically?) lean into on Chessbrah. An important piece of context is that the video was published in the summer of 2020, shortly after the murder of George Floyd, during the uprisings, when race was in the public consciousness much more than usual. Here are some timestamps from the video: 2:51, average racist stereotype "black person" impression 6:04, "Dammit, I'm black.... Maybe it works for black as well. I mean it is called the Jerome." And the laughing pepe animation creeps in. At worst, a blatant dogwhistle to the worst people on the internet, at best, fucking irresponsible as a youtuber with hundreds of thousands of subscribers to reference a symbol of white supremacy WHEN TALKING ABOUT RACE. 8:05 "We have more privileges than our opponent, and I think that is what Jerome sought out to do. This was a movement. This was about privilege. Jerome had a mission statement over 100 years ago, this was about privilege!" He said this when he had the white pieces, by the way. i don't know, I don't even think I know what the joke is. At best, vague support for BLM, at worst, mocking the goals of BLM, or maybe just making fun of some generic SJW character. The rest of the video is pretty funny, and I do revise my previous comment, because it's not racist jokes all the way through, but they did set the tone for the rest of the video overall. I'm not trying to cancel them or anything, cause they're chill most of the time, but this video was weird.

I studied the KIA over the course of this series, made a new account that only plays it with the white. My previous bullet rating with E4 repertoire took me to 800 in about two months. With this opening, I made 900 in a couple of weeks. Thankyou for the instructive chess and good vibes all along the way.

Regarding this rant about thinking when you're already lost (starts 17:37), I think (in my view) it's not actually thinking ;). At this level (I'm around 1700 myself) the guy most probably knows that his position is already hopeless, it's just contemplating (sometimes mumbling to oneself) like 'what have I done', 'how could I let this happen', 'I shouldn't play when tired or angry' etc, then you look at this disaster you allowed for a few more seconds, sigh heavily and click the resign button. Ocasionally the mouse or headset flies across the room and hits the wall :p. That's when you actually had a chance to get an advantage (or even had one) at some point ;)

Interesting that you mention that they spend all their time when it's mate in 1. Watching your clock I was wondering, maybe I don't spend enough time thinking through my moves. Although to be fair I still lose even when I waste a lot of time "thinking".
