Mr. Florent, I completely agree with your assessment of the Winchester 101 manufactured in the early 1970s. In North America, where I live, a multitude of this model are still in circulation. Winchester manufactured three grades: 101 like yours, 101 Pigeon grade and 101 Dimond grade. When you find one with a 90% rating, you have to seize the opportunity. A beautiful 101 is both robust and elegant for a ridiculously low price.

I have a Winchester model 101 Classic skeet with 28 inch ported barrels.Over all it's a beautiful gun. Soft shooting. (Limbsaver boot). Ballance is spot on. I can shot trap, skeet, sporting clays. Or go hunting. Great all around gun. Absolutely no complaints.

Recently bought a Winchester skeet 101 with 28" barrels in 1969. All I can say is they are great guns. Manufacturing is second to none because they were made in Japan. They are a bit heavier than the modern over and under but it helps reduce the recoil.

Inherited my grandfathers 101 after his passing and took it out the first week and shot 2 pheasants at a game farm. Love the shotgun but love the fact even more that a 35 year old shotgun still shoots probably as well as the day it was purchased. Superior craftsmanship 👌🏻

Still hunt with a 101 xtr. Its a knocked out 40 years old gun my father bought in his prime. Love it and will hunt with as long as possible. Foreend broke and repaired, buttstock cracked and repaired at pistol grip, barrel selector is brazed so only safety works. Changed pins in the trigger assambley. I am looking at Berettas and Brownings butt always end back with my old hunting buddy 😀

I had Winchester Newhaven make me a matching pair of 101 Pigeon grade guns in 1977. a skeet gun 28" barrels and a Trap gun 30' barrel. both gave impecable performance. the receivers were silver and heavily engraved. I recently sold them to a collector. both were in excellent condition. the original winchesters were a world class act. they stand up today equal to any modern guns for reliability and finish. Their barrels were way ahead of their time. I have Ceaser Guerini Invictus vii , perazzi mx2000/8 and Miroku and also a Beretta D T 11 to compare them with. I am a definite fan.

I have a 101 XTR sporter, multi choke. Action is a bit loose now and bluing a little faded but it must be almost 40 years old and seen plenty of use. I find comb height is only a shade lower than a Browning on the sporter. Trigger pulls no worse either, and is mechanical not inertia. Only problem is spares, and weak point is ejector hammers cracking. A good gun, would have over a new budget gun all day long.

I used a Winchester 101 when i first started shooting at 10 years old, Then went onto a Beretta when i was a teenager. But after a few years decided to go back to the Winchester and have two of the 101 game guns which i enjoy using and shoot really well with them. You don't need to spend a fortune to have a quality gun that does the job.

The Winchester 101s made in Japan were essentially hand fitted guns made to superb standards. The Pigeon and Diamond grade guns are top tier trap guns. The Grand European model was the top of the line and sold as the Winchester 501 in Europe. I have 6 Winchester 101 trap guns: 1 basic trap, 1 30" Pigeon Grade, 2 Diamond Grade (30" & 32"), 1 30" Grand European, "& 1 Diamond Grade 32" Un-single. I also have a 27" Win 101 Skeet gun. The price for these older guns has risen 25-40% in the last 2-3 years as more people realize what a great value they represent. A lot of detractors claim these guns "...kick like a mule...!' Well, none of my guns do so it must be an aftermarket part that causes that kick! A good friend of mine has won multiple state, regional and zone titles as well as making the All-American team shooting a 32" Pigeon Grade 101. As others have said, the firing pins break. I have had that happen but not with any frequency. If one does break, it takes longer to remove and reinstall the stock than it does to install a new firing pin. Dave is right! If you find one and it fits, buy it. You won't regret it

The first time I ever shot a clay was a round of skeet with a borrowed 101, thanks to a bit of beginners luck I beat the other shooters with more fancy guns and the 101 owner was fairly hooting with pleasure. I have a Grand European (Model 501) which I have been using regularly for 40 years. So far a broken top lever catch spring and 3 sets of firing pins. The pins pit because they stay contact with the primer on firing as there is no spring to withdraw the pin. A local gunsmith does hard coated pins but for Miroku's (same problem) but there are not enough Winchesters around to justify making hard coated pins for them

There are others with better fit and finish but none are better mechanically. They are just fantastic in every regard. Not sure what 450 pounds equates to in US dollars but the ones I mentioned are in the $1700.00 and up to well over $5000.00 depending on condition, gauge, and originality including cases and boxes that they were supplied with when new.

That was my first gun it spent a lot of time in the gunsmiths broken hammer spring broken firing pin and occasionally would double discharge, wouldn't buy another.

All the older winchesters brownings and Mirokus that are from the 80s are still a better buy then a new turkish gun and can be had for the same money although they’ve seen a lot of work there still put together and finished better then the new turkish guns and sadly over looked these days as warranty sells more then a reputation

Nowt wrong with a good Lanber fella. They'll hit as well as anything else and last a lifetime... just not as trendy these days. I got rid of my B525 (not using it) ended up getting a cheap double trigger Lanber and love it... wouldn't swap.... 😂... I've probably been sniffing too much stock oil again.

I have a Niko Shadow made in the same Miroku factory that made the 101. It looks exactly like the 101 except IMO there is better wood on the Niko. It's a great gun but it has fixed chokes.

Twenty years after WW II, firms were asked by the US government to assist Japan's manufacturing base to recover from the war. Winchester granted a license to Kodensha to have the 101 produced in Japan under a joint venture company called Olin/ Kodensha. (Guns manufactured by this company are marked with that name on the breech in front of the trigger guard.) The early guns were practically hand built and are extremely high quality, superior guns. Eventually, the Kodensha company requested Winchester to manufacture their own line of guns for sale exclusively in Japan. Thus the Miroku was born. The reason why the Miroku's had better wood is the superior wood supplied by Winchester was selected and set aside by Kodensha for use in the Mirokus. Winchester ended it's production in Japan over this breach of good faith.

@@Pynckone miroku wasn't kodensha they are a seperate altogether, that's nikko at kodensha, olin/winchester also wasn't happy about the japanese making and exporting guns to the states under different names, then eventually just exported nikko branded guns, it all fell apart, sad days but a very cool history

@@fullchoke01 I'll buy your explanation. I read the information in my aforementioned post years ago in a trapshooting group. His explanation may have been off a little. I always wondered because the dates of the wood selecting controversy and the cessation of Japanese manufacture differed by several years.

Great guns, definitely not like a lanber though i dont think the two can be compared in terms of build quality or reputation. I'd say that today you'd need to spend more than your average browning beretta money to buy better than that 101

I bought it at a Rod and Gun Club In Germany while stationed then in the Army. It was 1973. It is a great gun. Dove, quail, pheasants, ducks, geese, grouse, and more skeet than I could count. It has always gone bang. Love it. I still shoot it every week at skeet. I shoot clays with a new 101.
