Did this a couple months ago to a beat up Cooey 840 20ga. I picked up. It had a crack in the stock at the tang. Opened it up and got some super thin epoxy in the crack. Reblued the receiver with some birchwood superblue (it's what I had) Bedded the receiver to give it some support so hopefully it won't crack again. It has the older style fore-end retainer, but pretty much the same gun. Yours definitely turned out looking better but still a fun project on a fun little gun!

Anything to keep these old girls on the road, whether it's cold blue, hot blue, or rust blue.. so long as it's shooting and making people happy, is all that matters!! I'm not sure of what epoxy you used, but I'm imagining that for the majority of use that people would put one of these through, it will probably be more than well enough. Better than nothing! Cheers

@@BLWRK The epoxy I used to fill the crack was from Resin Research, project 21, I use it for building skis. Has the consistency of warm honey, if that makes sense? The bedding was done with Devcon

Hey, curious, I see where you are using Laurel Mountain Brown and Degreaser. I have never used this before. This appears to give a blue/black look instead of brown. Do you have to apply more coats to obtain the blue/black appearance?

Yes, so, Bluing steel is just a (relatively) more refined finish than browning is. Browning, as a finish, is the exact same process as bluing, with the only difference being the final boil at the end. When the "brown" or rust is boiled, it converts into bluing. Hope this helps!

Great video! Have been searching for a breakdown of the receiver. Your detail was spot on. Completely hypothetical question as everyone knows only a competent, trained gunsmith should ever attempt trigger work. But is there anything a competent,trained gunsmith could do for the trigger pull on these firearms? Mine is about 8.5-9 lbs. with very rough creep. (I’ve had the buttstock off and it appears clean and adequately lubed). Thank you in advance for any hypothetical advice you could offer!!

Why would you soak wood stocks in Acetone when you can use Strypeeze by SAVOGRAN, which can be purchased at any Sherwin-Williams retail store? Strypeeze can be applied with a foam brush and scraped off in less than 20 minutes with a plastic putty scraper, and after it has been wiped down with a cleaner, the wood can dry and be ready for sanding. Don't ruin wood by soaking it in chemicals or liquids.

Thank you! So, this is just an old electronically controlled electric smoker that I gutted! I found it used for like $60 and it works great! Cheers!

Great videos. Do you buff and boil between every rust coat? And do you know how many cycles you did ? Bluing looks great! Cheers

So, I card between every rust cycle, BUT lately I've gotten in the habit of only boiling ONCE at the end of all of my rust cycles. The amount of rust cycles really depends on the finish of the steel prior to application, but I typically try to shoot for at least 7 cycles. It's quite a controversial topic (as is anything on youtube) converting the rust only once after many rust cycles, but I've found that it really doesn't make a difference in the end result, and saves quite a bit of time and materials.
