So who's point is it? Do you have to make physical contact for the ball crossing the net to count, or is there no touching requirement or the wind created from the swing counts?

Former middle school tennis player here, perhaps I can shed some light on this replay: Raducanu (in yellow) got the point. After the ball bounced on Wang's side of the court it became her responsibility (idk what the official term is, maybe possession), meaning she had to hit it before it bounced a second time, *regardless of whether the 2nd bounce would fall on her side of the court.* If the ball had been redirected back over the net without ever touching the ground (boomerang action) it would've been a point for Wang, assuming Raducanu couldn't catch up to the ball. It just so happens that whoever decided on the rules of tennis made it so the ball becomes your "responsibility" when it _lands_ on your side of the court, not when it crosses over the net to your side of the court; and once the ball is your responsibility you can't let it bounce again without first hitting it to your opponent's court, no matter where you have to chase it down to. The wind being responsible for this outcome certainly complicates where the point should _rightly_ go and does seem somewhat unfair to Wang. But Wang could've made the return if she acted a hair sooner, and if Wang _had_ made the return, it would've been an ez point for her off that exact same gust of wind. Thus I'd say Raducanu receiving the point is in line with the *spirit* of tennis: i.e. to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent cannot return it.

In that case Raducanu would have never lost her "responsibility" of the ball, so it landing anywhere other than her opponent's court results in a point for the opponent. A player in Wang's position (i.e. the ball bounced in her court first then was redirected) could potentially still influence the outcome of the point; but you've made me realize that if outside forces ever cause the ball to "boomerang" back to you, your opponent _will_ score a point every time, since you can't hit a boomerang'd ball a second time and there is no other way to stop it from landing in your court. If it were my choice, I'd add a rule that treats a boomerang'd ball as if the opponent had returned it. That way, it would at least be _possible_ for the player to catch up to the ball and keep it in play; only if you failed to return would the opponent score. It's fine for nature to influence matches, but in my opinion it shouldn't be possible for nature to score guaranteed points against a player

That's not the wind. That's called slice, or for non-players, backspin. Wind can help, but it's not the wind. Take a racquet and hit the ball with a really hard downward swipe, and very little forward momentum. Ball will backspin and when it hits the court will resist forward momentum. I seriously hope no one over 10 years old doesn't know this.

If the ball bounces funny like this (seen often when players put spin on the ball) it's the only time the opponent is allowed to cross the plane of the net to hit the ball, because otherwise it would be impossible to hit. If she succeeds it's a fair ball and play resumes normally, if she fails to make contact she loses the point
