Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have searched all over the place for a custom-made window seat cushion. However, the cost was so much more than I paid to have my window seat made. Initially I wanted a memory foam window seat cushion, but I cannot find anyone who sells memory foam. I am soooooooooooooooo excited to have found your video. I know I can do this and make my own. In fact, I still have plenty of board left over from making my window bench. Off to JoAnn fabrics I go......................................

You just saved me a lot of money - I was going to hire someone to custom make a cushion for a huge window seat in our new home. I'll just make a couple of these instead! Thanks for the great idea and video.

Traci, Thanks for the excellent idea. We are attempting to get a house ready to sell on a budget and needed two window seat cushions. I am so excited that I can pick a great fabric, that I like, to make the cushions without breaking the bank. Thanks again.

Thank you for a great way to make a cushion! I would need to put spill proof material under a removable cover, though, due to 6-7 year olds in the house. It should not take much time to make, though not as quickly as yours! :-). The cushions would be part of a DIY breakfast nook.

Awesome technique to making that pillow seat! Loved it . . . question, what if your window seat is Trapezoid in shape? I was thinking 3 inch high foam, but the Front Length is 112 inches, Depth is 1' 7/8" and the Back Width is 5' 1/2". Yes, this is a large bay window. I figured on making my own pillow. Checking pricing on line is beyond my budget!!! Thank you :)

Have your cushions held up over time as far as the material staying on the cushion? I want to make a cushion using this same technique but was told the staples might pop out over time with a lot of use. I have my doubts that this is true, but I thought it was worth asking for your feedback since you made them several years ago. Thanks!
@TraciBeneathMyHeart5 жыл бұрын
Yes! They’ve held up perfectly. No tears at all. 👍🏼

You should have put a layer of batting over the foam to make it more comfortable.
@ckirby6147 жыл бұрын
Tracy, since you've made a few of these, do you recommend a particular thickness, from experience? I'm thinking 2, but will I regret "not 3"? Also, density, HD36? My window seat will not be "heavy use", (guest room) but it want it to be comfortable if someone sits in it to read, as I hope.
@TraciBeneathMyHeart6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I do not know the density I used. I just went with the one that I thought would work, and it turned out great! Our window seats were more for looks and didn't get used often, so it worked out fine.

Anyone know how thick the foam is?
@jaj47065 жыл бұрын
What if they don’t sell foam in the right size for your seat? Would u use two foam squares and if so would u glue them down first ? I prefer not to use 2 foam pieces as I feel like there would be a dip in center between them - but I really don’t want to pay for custom. What would u do?
@mattstanislen31655 жыл бұрын
@NJ J Definitely would try using only 1 piece, only multiple if stacking vertically. amazon sells really good foam free 2 day shipping with amazon prime that comes in 2 feet by 6 feet with thicknesses from 2-6". Electric carving knives cut the foam tremendously well which you can also get on amazon for really inexpensive.
@jaj47065 жыл бұрын
Matt Stanislen thanks! Sadly my window seat is 32 x 45.5” and I couldn’t find one seller with something that would work so I just ordered a foam mattress that I plan to cut down to size 😬 fingers crossed 🤞🏽

My window seat is 7 feet and can’t find foam long enough
@cdogvlog55576 жыл бұрын
You should add some batting.
@jaj47065 жыл бұрын
Cdogvlog 55 where would the batting go ? around the plywood before layering it with the foam and wrapping in fabric ? Or would you put it around the foam and plywood before wrapping in fabric?
@mattstanislen31655 жыл бұрын
@@jaj4706 you would do the exact same thing she did with the fabric, just with the batting first. pulling it tight, stapling and all. Batting, then fabric. It really makes a world of difference in comfortability, ascetics, and longevity of the fabric and foam themselves.

I’m sad because my built in window seat is curved so how would I do that ☺️
@megganbass68074 жыл бұрын
You cut the foam and board to the curve, and, with some patience, work the fabric around. A jig saw would be very handy for the curve cut.

freaking useless... thickness of foam? How to get nice edges?
@zook2k57 жыл бұрын
pesto12601 Anyone with half a brain can tell that the foam Is 3" thick. If that is too challenging, Id suggest buying a cushion, this is too difficult for you.
@pesto126017 жыл бұрын
Oh.. sorry Genghis... my mental eyesight ruler wasn't working 2 YEARS AGO.. but now I can certainly measure it at exactly 3" thick... not 2.75 inches.. not 2.5 or even 3.125.... you are so right.. it is EXACTLY 3" thick! So glad we revisited this video and that my eye ruler is working once again...
@zook2k57 жыл бұрын
pesto12601 si was looking how long ago the comment was made...my bad. The thickness of the foam is really up to you and your preferences. Most people seem to use 3". I use both 2 and 3 and haven't seen any sizes You mentioned, so I'm guessing that's sarcasm.
