Thanks for covering XP Delta. I’ve pretty much been done with the project for a few months now, but I am glad it’s been getting all this attention. There’s actually a whole unofficial Windows 10 Delta over in China, if anyone’s interested. It’s kinda weird having your “bootleg” get bootlegged itself.

Thanks! I tested this version of Windows XP, with the Delta edition, on both VirtualBox and VMware, and it worked very well! Especially that I heard a different startup sound for XP, as well as in Delta edition of Windows Vista and 7, it makes me feel like I was reviving 2000s technology.

Aw, it comes with the Utopia sounds? That's freaking cool! I loved Utopia; it was the default sound scheme on my childhood HP Pavilion 6545C. As for why they sound similar to Microsoft Bob, well, that's because Microsoft Bob's development codename was "Utopia".

The biggest problem with them by far though is that you just never know if the author tried to sneak in spyware or malware. With a bit of programming competence, it would be so easy to do.

Not only the boot screen is different. The login screen also looks like beta. There are semi-transparent clouds in the background. In the RTM version, this is only a bright, radial gradient.

The Watercolor window style from Whistler was my favorite too. I was sad to see them scrap it in XP.

That's really dumb. Plasma has too many elements that aren't compatible with classic GUI conventions, try Trinity instead.

The Trinity desktop environment (KDE 3 fork) has a Watercolor lookalike style available. Was really pleased to see it, and people looking to run a modern OS on an older computer may enjoy it. Q4OS includes it, last I checked.

Ah yes the kde 3 fork based on a qt3 fork. Nothing against trinity (on the contrary I like trinity) but calling it "modern" is a bit of a stretch. Edit: I misread your comment, trinity works on modern OSes of course. But yeah don't use its html engine (aka its standard browser [konqueror])

Zone92 has a heavily modded XP with every possible add on you can think of. It is what I use on old computers.

My favourite theme for XP was Media Centre Edition, Luna theme is a classic but it was never my favourite visual style. I enjoyed using XP however

The creators of this also did Delta versions of Windows Vista, 7, and 8.1, which serve the same purpose as this one. Along with XP Delta, all of them are absolutely fantastic mods of Windows and I couldn't recommend them enough if you're into beta stuff.

This was when Windows was fun, now sadly it's not unless I really put the work into modifying it. I have most of those wallpapers and visual styles. I miss making these custom versions too, I might go back to doing them again. 🙂

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the logon backround is slightly different, than in RTM versions. RTMs has this bright circle in a upper left corner, but here are the clouds ;)

I'd rather you use it for work purposes. Doing casual stuff isn't recommended for XP nowadays. You already have Windows 7/10/11 for that, though I'd rather you use Linux- (unless you're playing some hardcore multiplayer games then)

Back in like, 1997, 1998 I helped install a bunch of refurb Compaq pcs for my high school and they all used the Utopia sound scheme. I didn't even know until *this video* that's what they used. I just remembered the sounds like the children laughing. Wow.

Just double checked, Program Manager was still included with XP at launch, only be stubbed with SP2+ although it can be restored.

The progman, winfile, and mplayer2 are there in XP x86 all along. They were just buried inside system32.

Thank you for this video it was interesting to see. I remember the 'watercolour' them but not the name from a window blinds theme but I think that included roll up and pin window controls. It's one I used before I ditched WBs for theme patcher. I would have liked the start up / shut down sounds to have remained as they are much better. I genuinely dislike those on XP as they aren't nice and are WAY too loud. XP still is and will always be my main OS for everything except the Internet (Q4os Trinity)

It is not trouble to have such possibilities to customize Windows 11 as Windows XP Delta has. But in release we can customise only Start Menu to show recommended apps or not.

Your windows 98 PC is almost exactly the same as the one I have. Mine is taller, I have 1 extra 5.25 bay and 3.5 inch bay above the 2x optical and 1x floppy bays. It's also a gateway. Same color, same design, pentium III. Built in may of 2000 as well. I have the matching keyboard and monitor. My mother bought it brand new. We had a matching printer. Not sure if we still have it. I haven't seen it in years. May make a video for you yo check out, MJD.

There's Windows Vista extended kernel stuff, but at this point ReactOS might just do it first than just modding the closed-source Windows.
