In The Wine-Searcher office, on a rainy Friday... David Allen MW tries a classic wine from Bordeaux - Chateau d' Armailhac 2016.
Chateau d'Armailhac is an estate in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux's northern Haut-Médoc wine region. As Mouton d'Armailhac, it was ranked as a fifth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It is part of the wider Baron Philippe de Rothschild portfolio of estates, including Mouton Rothschild. Improvements in quality in recent decades have led Chateau d'Armailhac to be regarded as one of Pauillac's best-value wines.
The vineyard is located to the south of the village of Le Pouyalet, immediately next to Mouton Rothschild and near Pontet-Canet. The estate covers 70 hectares (172 acres) and is planted with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
