Thanks so much, i love your details and descriptors. Oily and unctuous!!!! Thats fabulous!!!!, Also, I love Firesteed!!! The winemaker I work for made an orange Pinot Gris in 19, and I think it's fabulous!!!

Appreciated this wine cast just like all the others. Your knowledge and ability to present it is very impressive. Last year at a wine tasting in California, I encountered a PG from Sicily which stood out for it's freshness and vibrancy of citrus. Interesting variety indeed!

I absolutely agree. And I, too, have a soft spot for Pinot Gris from Oregon...and Alsace of course. Cheers.

Hey I think I was the one to make a request! Thank you so much for making this! I’ve been a big fan of you, but now I feel like I’m geeking out since my request was considered!! Thank you!!! I love your channel!

I think you were the requester. Thanks for the suggestion; it was a great idea that wasn't, for some reason, even on my radar. Cheers!

I didn't know Grauburgunder was a synonym for Pinot Gris...one more thing learned. Pinot Grigio was probably the first wine I ever tried on one of the many visits to Italian restaurants in my childhood. Very accessible from what I recall but I haven't had a bottle in almost a decade. Perhaps it's time to revisit the grape variety.

PG has gotten a bad rap, primarily, I think, because of the ocean of mediocre stuff that showed up on the market a few years ago. When it's grown and made carefully, I think it's a pretty compelling grape. Cheers!

Fun fact: "burgunder" tends to get attached to members of the Pinot collective in German. So, Spätburgunder = Pinot Noir, Weissburgunder = Pinot Blanc, Grauburgunder = Pinot Gris.

The Unknown Winecaster Now that you mention it I probably should have made the connection earlier but Grauburgunder isn't that big of a deal here in Unterfranken (Lower Franconia).

The Unknown Winecaster I went out and bought a bottle of Pino Grigio Tradizione from Trentino (Endrizzi vineyard). It definitely is extremely quaffable from the very first sip, which is what we Franconians like in a white. Our local Müller-Thurgau is pretty good at that as well.

Fantastic video as always - was wondering if you could do an episode on the underappreciated regions of Savoie and the Jura?
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I already have one on the Jura and Savoie (along with Bugey) is in the pipeline (though your request might get it bumped up a bit). Hopefully the Jura cast will tide you over until Savoie is done. Cheers!

What source do you use for the listing of most planting varietals? And is there no update after 2010?

The Wine Economics Research Centre at the University of Adelaide has the most comprehensive database. They update it every ten years. www.adelaide.edu.au/wine-econ/databases/winegrapes/
