WTF. Yzerman is only doing this because his FA acquisitions have been so garbage. 3.4 mill for 3 years to Holl who only plays 11 games and we have to give up a young solid D man that actually plays in games. So thrilled to have Holl on the team instead of Walman AND A SECOND ROUND DRAFT PICK.
@captbloodbeard
@captbloodbeard Ай бұрын
The aquisition of Holl made a lot of sense when it happened, and he played 37 games. We needed a right handed dman. We didn't know we'd be able to get Petry, with some of his contract retained, when we got Holl. We kept Holl after getting Petry because what team ever has a healthy D corps?? Hindsight is 20/20, but last summer these didn't sound like bad deals. After watching the huge decline in play of Petry and Holl from their previous outings, they had no value left to trade. They didn't work out, but I call BS if you said they were garbage deals last summer. I'm on the same page as you though on wondering why the hell we chose Walman out of everyone to move, and why a sweetener pick was required at all. I thought we'd have to include a second to get rid of Holl or Maatta, who both have similar AAV, and Holl has a 10 team no trade list just like Walman did, but Maatta doesn't have any trade restrictions at all. If giving up a second to sweeten it, I find it hard to believe that we couldn't have gotten rid of Holl to San Jose, surely with them being willing to dress a terrible squad Holl would fit right in.

And it was a super small sample size that Chiarot played well with Seider this season, he was awful on the first pairing the previous season. I like Chiarot as a 2nd pairing guy, he's a bit overpaid, but if he has a good partner on the second pair he's fine. Walman is not a first pairing guy, but he was the closest we had to one (besides Mo, of course), and the usage of our first pair was abysmal this past season. Lalonde threw them in the deep end, and then held their heads underwater with their deployment. Then Jake got hurt, and they never put him back in the lineup. He was in Lalonde's doghouse, but I don't know why.

Yeah maybe if Steve did not make that obviously idiotic decission to sign useless Holl for 3x3,4M, he wouldn't have to do this another at least questionable decission...that's 4 bad moves by Steve in last 2 years (Holl, Copp, Petry and this). In Yzerplan I trust, but I am worried...

Don't forget about trading for and then buying out Yamamoto to sign kostin. And then getting rid of kostin in less than 1 full season. And still paying for Yamamoto for another full year.

I honestly can't be mad or surprised that none of the other UFA/RFA defensemen have signed yet with Utah. After the nightmare of having the team you play for suddenly have a dramatic change in location I would think you want more control over where you okay next you know??

The fact the Sens dumped off Korpisalo and only gave up 25th overall and then got Ullmark this move makes no sense there must be something there with Walman cause hes not a negative asset at that cap hit

Kolyachonok, to me, feels like the type of defenseman that teams will fight for (and end up probably overpaying for) at the deadline a year from now.

This is what happens when you're incompetent in free agency...which Yzerman has been. Chiarot, Holl etc are TERIBLE deals and nobody will touch those contracts...

As a wings fan, I’m totally fine with this move. They essentially traded Andrew Gibson and Walman to make space to sign *hopefully Kane or some other great offensive player. Walman rubbed me the wrong way at times. Sure he could put up points on the back end, but his defensive zone play was often inconsistent. He was also healthy scratched at points which indicates bad attitude/not buying in. Plus, we have Edvinsson and Johansson playing full time this year, they will replace Walman

Walman would get worked in the low d zone. He was okay in the neutral zone and decent in the o zone but couldn’t compete down low.

Maybe. Or he’s trying to keep the old men on offense because they don’t have anyone ready to step in yet. Which just means, at best, getting into the playoffs as 7/8. Then getting Molly Whopped in the First Rd. 😂😅❤

@@ryans413 This is only Yzerman's 5th year. He inherited basically a dumpster fire from Holland. Wings will be fine. Already looking to make playoffs this year and will be contenders in a few years to come
