Jerry Reed was frickin awesome.... So much talent, in so many different things. Most young people dont even know he was a phenomenal guitarist, they just remember him acting in Smokie and the Bandit and such. Jerry was a first class performer, a d entertainer. A true showman who would capture the crowds attention instantly. Musician, actor, singer, song writer, comedian, etc etc etc... A remarkable man.

While those guys were very well known in the 70's country music scene, they were definitely forgotten guitar heroes onward. As Fil noted, with Jerry Reed, the other aspects of their talent probably overshadowed their guitar playing. And whomever keeps suggesting these videos, you are the real heroes. In addition to all of the things he could do, he was ahead of his time in video. He was the first country artist to use video projection and image magnification on his live shows. Jerry did it in 1983 and said that one day, every country act would be using video support. The industry laughed at the time, but his prediction had been borne out. He built Nashville's first independent broadcast quality post production and editing facility. Don't let the good ol' boy part mislead you, Jerry was way ahead of the crowd. Loved Jerry Reed. Mad skills on the guitar. When I was a child, growing up in southern Kentucky, an hour outide of Nashville, it seemed like everyone played music. Both my dad and mom played in country bands. A lot of people did. Dad learned guitar by listening to Chet Atkins and other country guitarists. It was just a way of life. People would just gather and just play music together. It wasn't until I was grown, that I realized that wasn't the norm everywhere. My dad was still playing guitar in church just a couple of months before he died at the age of 78.

Phil, I like the way you analyze, each artist that you bring to your show. I like the way you in-depth describe things that the artist does, that a normal person overlooks or does know. Thank you

Jerry Reed was a legend in his own time. So many great musicians and songwriters have come out of the Southern states. No one can deny the talent and hard work, that went into their music.

I saw Jerry Reed in Abilene, Texas in 1977. He did a concert there but I didn't get to go see it .I was at the largest Country Western Club with a group of friends that Saturday night and he came into the club after his concert. He wasn't through playing and singing so he let his band go to the hotel and he used the house band and played and sang for another 1 1/2 hours. It was awesome. He did all his hits and afterward invited a couple of my girlfriends and me out to the bus and gave us an autographed picture and a kiss on the cheek. It was fabulous and free because back then girls got in free before 9PM and we were always broke!! LOL!!

Good video my British friend! Jerry was an icon in the States, he was such a star that not many DID know that besides his film career he was revered as one of the greatest guitarists in all the land. Not to mention his fantastic charisma and charm, he’s a legend! Nice to see the UK giving credit to the man! Thank you 🙏

Splendid job Fil, you really did your homework on this one! The movie Smokey and the Bandit came out the same year I graduated high school,1977. He was a legend in the world of guitar players, and from that very movie's soundtrack was released Eastbound & Down which made its way to number 2 on the country charts and I believe stayed there for a good while. Brings back some memories and also makes me feel old!

Jerry talked about working with Elvis on tv right after he did that recording. I think it was the Ralph Emery show. It's been awhile. Hi Fil!! This video of Jerry Reed is spectacular!! I grew up in Houlton Maine. In the mid 80's I forget the exact year, we had Jerry Reed Live at the Houlton Fair. I was a young drummer back then and what a show!! I stood there while they did a sound check with my buddy Tim who is also a bass player. The bass player for Jerry was Paul Bryant and he was a monster player. I just wanted to say hello and I watch your videos often. Very nice Work!!
