The WINIX 5300 and 5500 HEPA + Carbon air filters look similar, so what makes them different, and why does the 5500 cost more than the 5300. Which is the best air filter?

Will it put strain? Also if put the padded one in front then hepa then carbon pellet one so 3 in total will it put strain on the motor ?

The remote is nice for potentially wanting to leave it somewhere that it's not easily accessible. I was thinking of use case scenarios as well when you brought it up, but that seems pretty valid.

Awesome ideas! I wonder if you could buy the 5500 then stack them with the pellets in the back like you said, then use the replacement 5300 filters in front of it. Not sure if that is even worth it at that point though lol.

Lot of great videos here, glad l found this channel. Have you by chance tested to see if both carbon filters added to the 5500-2 causes airflow resistance? Im trying to decide between the 5500 or 5300 model.

Thanks, It will add some airflow resistance, but it doesn't matter if you're constantly recirculating the air in a room.

Hi Engineerable, thank you for doing the comparison for the replacement filters. I purchased a 5500-2 second hand for a good price and I do not necessarily care too much about the carbon pellets. Would it then be OK to purchase just the Filter A for both since I already own a C535. Thanks!

Yes, filter A is compatible with Winix air cleaner models 6300, P300, 5300, 5500, 5300-2, 6300-2, AM90, C909, 9800 and C535

I've always thought the foam carbon filters are better than the washable screen filters. They are so cheap that you can just replace them every few months for a few bucks. So I agree that using a foam filter in front of the carbon pellet filter makes sense.

would be nice to see a test comparing both units and how well they filter out smells
@engineerable
@engineerable Жыл бұрын
That would nice, but difficult to quantify since smells are subjective. Putting the mesh carbon filter in front of the pelletized one like I showed gives you the best of both. I wouldn't run the pelletized carbon without the mesh carbon as a prefilter anyways.

Nice insights on these filters. Does that carbon filter on 5300 release small dust particles?? May be that why it's on front of HEPA filter ?
@engineerable
@engineerable Жыл бұрын
That is a good point that I forgot, the carbon pellets do generate carbon dust if exposed to vibration (from past experience working with industrial pelletized carbon filters) so that may be why it's in front of the HEPA, however there should always be a fine prefilter (HEPA grade) in front of the carbon also to extend the life of the carbon filter.
@mrswapyyc
@mrswapyyc Жыл бұрын
@@engineerable Thanks, that helps. I am more concerned about what is coming out of the filter than what is going in. If adding carbon filter is causing it to release fine dust in surrounding then I was thinking may be not to use that carbon filter. Planning to buy house my house.

Hi, thank you so much for the video. Can you do the same with the 5300-? just to buy the additional carbon filter from the 5500? the 5500 is unfortunatelly not available in Europe (at least i did not find it) so I am looking for ways to upgrade the 5300. Thank you in advance.

Also, have you found that Winix's recommendations of when to change the filters is accurate? Also, how do you feel about generic filters maybe you've answered all this and I'm just not putting it all together.
@engineerable
@engineerable Жыл бұрын
I think you can run the filters much longer than recommended change internals, but it depends on how much dust you have in the air. You need to be the judge by checking the airflow coming out. If you have dogs that shed a bunch of hair, it will clog quicker than when used in a clean space.
@engineerable

@engineerable
@engineerable 4 ай бұрын
It would make an improvement to an extent. A larger carbon filter like something used for grow rooms would probably be the best, but prefiltering that with a HEPA filter like this is important to extend the life of the carbon media.

So if you keep stacking them like wouldnt it slow the air being pulled in because its stacked and packed an burn up the motor? And My husband and I smoke and on three it cleared the room there was no lingering fog of smoke, I was very impressed. I have three cats two litter boxes back of my house smells like cats and dryer dust turned it on turbo took 20 mins and it was clear and fresh. I have not used the plasmawave just because of all the youtubes I have watched say the same and I dont understand it an if how it works would affect us. Thank you for the video Oh an mine is the 5500-2

Stacking the mesh carbon prefilter adds insignificant air resistance. Dust clogging the filters adds the most resistance. Keep your prefilters clean by vacuuming or washing them.

The thing is this: the air particles are attracted to the carbon, so it snatches them when they are close and they stick to the carbon. The designers of this were not dum dums when designing this.
@engineerable
@engineerable 9 ай бұрын
The range from which the particles in the air get "snatched" is very small. Much smaller than the large spaces in the carbon filter. All real pelletized carbon filters pack the carbon in with no gaps, such that the air is forced to flow within small gaps between the pellets.
@user-kb8kg1dp7l

@@engineerable I just thought of something -- if they did put 10-12 more pellets in each Hexagon to fill it up then the HEPA Filter would not need to be changed out for maybe 2 years or maybe even 3, depending on how dirty the space is where you planted the WINIX. Can't get away from planned obsolescence, even with this kind of thing.

So, if buy a 5300-2 (which is cheaper than the 5500-2 at this moment), source the mesh pre-filter part for a 5500-2, buy the 'Filter H - 116130' to get the activated carbon filter, fit those all together then I would be all set to go and save a few bucks in the process, ja? Edit: Or if I just cut down those raised ridges maybe that would do the trick?
