Formula 1 is a third of the way into what is proving a closer-than-anticipated 2024 season - and has already had several teams' fortunes change significantly, for better or worse, through in-season development.

REC Watches has worked with Classic Team Lotus and reforged the original aluminium plenum tubes from Senna’s 1986 F1 car into the outer chapter rings on their new 98T/4 collection - strictly limited to 989 watches, each of which is individually numbered. The 98T/4 pieces are exclusively available via www.recwatches.com/timepieces/98t-4/ - with a 20% pre-order discount for the fastest customers.

989 doesn't seem very limited considering its niche - an expensive complicated mechanical watch for Formula 1 fans with no horological heritage. Too no-name for watch snobs, too expensive for regular F1 fan. It's curious that they developed a brand new movement for it and don't advertise it as such. R&D isn't cheap and the result isn't always better than third-party options. Or it is third-party and they're lying.

Let me get this straight. They cut up one of Senna's car destroying it in the process and then made watches out of it? I'm not going to buy it either way but advertising a business that destroys historical things from f1 to F1 fans is a really interesting idea.

Mclaren bring massive upgrades that work, Mercedes bring smaller upgrades that work (steady progress), Aston Brings practically a new car and goes slower...

I think the trend where teams get slower when Alonso joins is because he can drive anything and does not give good feedback. Alonso has never been in a Neweymobile, so he does not know what a peak Formula 1 cars feel like. Vettel became a Neweybaby and thus knows exactly what it should feel like and that is what he learned to drive. Alonso is too adaptable for his own good while not having experience in Neweymobiles means he adapts without ever know what is fastest..

The last part is the biggest change imo. Up until that first season with Renault engines, that they got a big slice of humble pie, after years and years of pointing fingers to engine manufacturers for the problems of reliability. (yes even when Mercedes made their works team that had a way higher reliability they still said it was more the engine side then them...) Until they changed to Renault and were burning engine covers in testing and having other reliability issues. Finally they started changing and understanding it wasn't only the engine side that was failing...

@@The_Curious_Cat 2018 was also the time when McLaren made a transition in the teams culture. Under Ron Dennis until he left in 2017, they were an arrogant team stuck in the 90's and early 2000's with their mentality. When Zak Brown and Seidel came in they gave the team a chance for a fresh start. They worked into building the team back up, for example they engaged drivers who were pretty popular within the younger F1 fanbase, they signed a plethora of sponsorship deals to get good financial backing, they managed to get a new deal with Mercedes to get the best engines on the grid back in 2021, they invested massively into newer facilities like their brand new wind tunnel and finally they engaged talented F1 engineers from Red Bull and Ferrari to create a new technical structure. Their resurgence has started in 2018 and it took them 6 years before becoming a strong top team that can challenge for wins every race.

Yes and Ferrari have also changed their aero and cooling packages to something different to what they started with in Bahrain, while McLaren keeps evolving the every aspect of the concept they brought in Austria last year. On the other hand you have Mercedes and Red Bull who came in this season with different cars in 2024 and look to be bringing smaller upgrades that are introduced more progressively every couple of races.

Also the tracks. Because RB is still the best car by a margin. But in some races they can't show it just like the video explained. It's like Austin last year. The difference is that in 2023 the competition was far behind. So it's nice to see the teams finally catching up. Hopefully the catching continues and we do have indeed a way more competitive second part of the season and 2025. And then here comes the new regs and another team, or the same, dominating again. It was not always, though. The 2012 Ferrari went from barely a midfielder to a front runner The 2016 McHonda was a decent car compared to what came before and after McLaren credit him with almost all of the 2019 car development work Alpine developed from bad to okay in 2021

I think Ocon (and Alpine) said that Alonso didn't contribute much to simulator work in 2021-22. He may have given feedback to the car's on track behaviour, but it seems like he doesn't help in simulator work as much as others do. I heard something similar back in 2018 also, where Lando was doing most of the simulator work and not Alonso.

A better parking option is back the car on the left. I do this. Now both drivers SHARE a larger 4 to 5 foot opening in the center of the garage. With a small unusable space on the passenger door. If you have a passenger then they get in when a car is moved into the driveway, but easy to get in and out of each car.

@@billygoat520 Only top 3 team personnel and drivers salaries are not in the cap. Building infrastructure IS in the cap. Aston paid for their new wind tunnel before the cap was implemented. James Vowles has done many interviews over the last year saying how all of Williams infrastructure is severely out of date, but they can’t update it due to the budget cap rules.
