I absolutely love these discussions! Suzanne has a wonderful ability to tease out information and explain it in terms a non-engineer can wrap their head around. This field is so fascinating it makes me envious of the youth of today and their opportunity to enter this field at this early, but accelerating stage of development. Ahhhh, to be young! 😊😊😊. Thanks for another great panel exchange! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Suzanne Gildert is the CTO of Sanctuary AI, a company that creates human-like robots. Some people wonder if she is a Young Mage or a Wizard, because of her amazing skills and vision. I think she is a great leader and innovator, who will represent the robotic industry well in this exciting era of robotics and AI. She is passionate about creating robots that can interact with humans and learn from them. She is not just a scientist, but also an artist and a visionary.

Suzanne is brilliant, my new hero. Is her company considering smell and texture? I always use the example of making a sandwich, which requires judging the freshness of the lettuce and meat and bread as well as the assembly. These are things that we take for granted but require very sophisticated judgements and sensors.

Actually that seems to be how humans learn using neural physics in that one manipulates something, like squeezing a roll or paper towels and then creates a neural physics model in their heads of how paper towel rolls behave. One can squeeze the roll at different locations and with different amounts of forces and with different roll thicknesses and then create a pretty good neural model without actually knowing much physics.

"Neural Physics" reminds me of my studies in "Axial Tomography"; a subset of Aristotle's Optics. "Wait for it ...", the new 'coding-language' based on visual optics, where coding/communications will be based on "Visual Tokens" that are complimentary to 'block-chain' technology(.) DOJO is a 'visual' learning platform, generally associated with FSD, but that's just the beginning, and soon it will dawn on many why the Twitter purchase was/is so misunderstood ...even at $44B(!)

It’s great that you three have touched on the true magic of these bodies we are all in. Namely our ability to interact physically and emotionally with this reality. I vibe with your sentiment but I disagree. Music is a deep full body experience for a humans and animals. Robots and their mind/body connection is different. The odds/needs to develop a robot with similar relationship seems unlikely to me. I'd be interested in them making creative expressions that mean something to them in a way that is unique to them. But maybe it looks like us afterall in which case, hats off to you,

Dr K, I think most people have a hard time imagining humanoids doing anything useful beyond picking up & moving stuff. I wonder if you could show guests like Suzan or Brett Adcock a page of common hand and power tools and ask them “When will a humanoid be able to operate this tool, and what are the challenges?” This is important because tools multiply the capability of both humans and bots.

The Definition of AGI would have to be based on being a market actor, AI can optimize on basically any game but a market actor is going to say what the game is and define the rules. AGI is in the outer game and there are two candidates for the outer game, the market and voluntary exchange or just survival of the fittest. AGI is absolutely dependent on the market and other market actors. This is absolutely the way forward to have multiple individuals, this is how it was done and not only is it the only proven method, there is no other way to say that you are measuring progress than with a market where you measure pleasing others.
@RonLWilson

BTW, and totally off topic, but that probably is one reason (of many) that conspiracy theories like flat earthers are always saying that space walks and such look fake in that their neural physics models are based on their own limited experiences and not based on what things might look like ins pace or in zero g and such. So there are limits in neural physics models in that they might have biases if not properly trained.

Right now, people do specialize, and we do it more and more. The old saying that a PhD knows more and more about something till they are so specialized they know everything about nothing. It isn't real, but it has a basis in truth, because there is not enough time in life to know everything about everything. ... At the end you got to the real crux of the fears of robot and AGI in society, in how do we keep everyone interested in doing something positive in life and fulfilling their needs both intellectually and physically (i.e. financially)

There are so many places that the human brain is just to limited to understand the problem. Look at protein folding. Very difficult for a human to do and machine intelligence can do it much better and faster than we can. But take it a step further, what about modelling a cell on a molecular basis? It would take a huge and powerful data center to properly model a cell down to the molecule. No human could do that unaided and even modern data processing centers might not be able to do so in a timely fashion - but they will. I believe that intelligent machines are going to unlock cellular modelling which will enable synthetic biology which will enable nanotechnology. And it will do it so much sooner than many people think possible.

Probably better if they spend a few minutes prior to going live to set an agenda for the discussion so your able to cover everything you want to in the amount of time available. Peace

The AGI problem may need to have basic activities in which the AI can draw upon to build complex behavior. Take for example checking out at a grocery store (or any other tasks that requires queuing in a line). One has to be able to determine how many lines there are. How long each line is. How fast is that line moving. Can one change to a line this is shorter or is moving faster. Is the line moving at all. Where am I in that line. Is anyone breaking in line and if so what to do about that. Is there special considerations in which line to get in, say number of items limit or one needs a special pass for some lines. Thus one might have a queuing tool kit that the AI can employ and adapt to any given queuing situation. This is just one in many such tools an AI might need to have its it toolkit. One might use LLMs to help build these tools but once built they may be AI driven Agents that employ other methods than just NNs.

What about "what's coming" in the disruption of human labor/productivity(...?) You'll want to remember, that governments are going to change the economic factors in defining labor and productivity. AI and robots cannot be allowed to decrease the 'tax' revenues of the governing authority. Yes, the tax assessor must take your solar installation into account for valuations, and they are not going to allow your EV use the roads without that fossil fuel tax base. "Energy is the new currency", and kilo-Watt-hours can be measured as a wealth index. Milage assessments for each vehicle, plus kWhs/mile, are practical measurements for tax accountability. Remember, that the US dollar decoupled from the gold-standard, but needed oil as a replacement, and the US Federal Reserve can/will redefined productivity[...man-hours] as the criteria for taxing AI and robotics. Otherwise the tax base of human labor will be disrupted into non-existence. Proving that 'there-is-no-free-lunch', and AI/robots cannot be allowed to disrupt the social requirements for taxes(.) "How many kilo-Watts/man-hours in your wallet"(?)

It does because the internal world model and perception has a high probability of being wrong. I.e model learns from embodiment when I touch fire it hurts therefore it also would hurt others. This is a generalization that is impossible without embodiment. Yes the model could know that fire can hurt other because it is implied via text and tokens but those methods don't relay enough information for accurate perception. Margin for error is too high.

@@BongoWongoOG All sorts of robots will use AGI. A self-driving car will not be a humanoid robot pulling a rickshaw or even a humanoid robot behind the wheel of a car. @@restonthewind Same issue as I said prior. In the case of Sanctuary, which is going for alignment through RLHF and Imitation Learning. They have to use a bot that can correlate the appropriate actions/inference to the training data. You COULD use an octopus bot but without heuristic logic it will never be able to move in a way that appears natural or predictable thus making it not a viable option for a work setting outside of a factory sandbox. Too much time, too many actuators, next to no data outside of sims. It's just not worth it.

Never discount the "Seven Deadly Sins" when analyzing the disruption of AI/robotics, and the first criteria is to address the human capacity for GREED(?) The 'market' for these technologies cannot overcome the human impetus to have more than others, and AI/robotics are a existential danger in the human struggle for equality, futhering the gap between the 'haves-and-havenots'(...?) We are already in the disruptive environment for technology to define power; socially, economically, and militarily. If technology does not address inequality there will be consequences that cannot be ignored(.)
