Hannah, look into putting in a damper into the stove pipe. About 10" above the stove top. It allows you to close the pipe to crack at night to slow the amount of air getting to the fire allowing the wood to not completely burn out during the night.

I was literally about to come here and say that..when closed it also stops downdrafts that can make it colder in that space when the stove is not in use.

She could already have a damper in that box coming out of the ceiling. Having the damper higher, allows more heat off from the pipe and less cold coming down the pipe to dissipate into the cabin.

Good advice, I should look into that myself. I think she did that on her wood stove at her other home.

@@armslength2618 I never had to have a fast burning wood fire to get good heat. At first, yes. Once you have a small bed of coals, all you need is good dry hardwood and you can dampen it down to a slow burn, using both intake damper on the stove and exhaust damper. Just need more flow out than in to keep enough oxygen flowing through the box for the correct burn rate. I had a wood stove in my basement that heated my 950 sq foot house as long as the temperature didn't drop below 20 f outside. I had a cold air duct above it and a separate fan switch on the gas furnace blower that would circulate the heat. Below 20, I had to turn the gas furnace on. I still had the old coal shoot that made it easier than carrying it down the stairs Back my truck right up to it and toss it in. There is no way it would be economical if you had to purchase firewood today.

Hi Hannah. I dont usually write comments but you have given me such a warm place in the last few months or better years that it is quite frankly time for a comment. I am currently feeling so lost among this world, longing for a place I can grow roots but at the same time hesitating to go somewhere else or back to my home country. I moved abroad a little over two years ago and things have been good and bad. But its always warm here, I feel like I am dissattached from my roots and my heritage. I dont really know what to do or where to go or if I should stay. But when I watch your videos I can smell the first flowers of spring, the forst and the first snow, feel the feeling of diy-ing and doing things just because you want to. To sit by a fireplace, to wear cozy sweaters and to just be peaceful. I long for that, hoping for a life similar, where I can be financially secure while doing things I love. I love your channel and whole personality and I am so grateful you are on this platform, sharing your wonderous life with us all. Thank you.

Yayyy, love the fireplace stove decision for that room! Best way to clean the glass front woodstoves is just with a wet piece of paper towel and it’s own ash. Pat the bottom of the cooled (make sure!) stove with the wet paper towel and scub the door and you’ll see the glass clearing. If it’s stops scrubbing good, pick up more ash. Repeat til your glass is as clear as day 1, follow up with a dry towel and voila! I LOVE my glass front stove, winter #3 in Eastern Canada and that method works every time. 🙏❤️👋🇨🇦

Yup! Exactly! I’m so glad I learned this trick too! 🥰. I use hot water in a cup and dab my paper towel in it, dip into that ash and all that soot comes right off the glass! Once done I go back over the glass with another clean paper towel and water and it’s like brand new! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hello Hannah, it looks like the new place is coming along, sometimes watching your videos. I wish you were just a little bit closer as I am liquidating my parents estate, which includes a 1850s pioneer era home, with a ton of vintage, antique, and heirloom items remaining. We’ve heated by woodstove or wood pellet stove for about 50 years here and one thing I will share for you is that if you don’t have a lean-to or shed to put your firewood under a simple tarp over the firewood will help keep it dry for the winter. You’re doing great with your renovation I hope to see more.

Hannah, I HIGHLY recommend the PEX pipes. I re-plumbed my entire house and cabin and barn with PEX. I haven't had a broken pipe or a leak since. Had some pretty hard freezes. Now, they will still freeze, but they will expand unlike pvc or copper. So, I'd recommend that investment. And if you are so handy (I know you are) you can do the plumbing yourself. They have all the kits and fittings and it's easy to do.

Looks like you have automagic locking hubs in the center of the front wheels so there shouldn't be a separate 4x4 shifter on the floor. In 4x4 mode you should have an indicator light on the dash. To disengage the 4x4, push the button again. I like to stop the truck and back up to help release the front hubs. No snow here in Michigan yet. Stay safe and warm. Thanks for posting.

Hi Hannah. Yep, the snow is flying. It's been a rush getting winterizing completed here too. I demo'd an old particle board falling in shed thing and hauled it off and am trying to get a pad down for a new shed with a wood floor in it before the freeze up. Good to see your friend again that helped you learn the bike, butt-ski out the back of his truck, hot sauna and snow ..he is a good friend. Great pumpkins. Hey - I was wondering if we could all stay home for the holiday/winter season? Do the deck the halls thing and enjoy family and friends at home. I miss Matt. Not to pry or be too personal. Anyway, it was just a wishful, wish-wish thing. Thanks for taking us along on all your adventures. Good job on the stove. ENJOY!! ENJOY!!

Hi Hannah Been watching your vids since the get go-just a share . You can use the ashes from the stove and a damp newspaper to clean the glass on your woodstove. No purchase necessary. Just thought it is a useful method to clean the glass that works great and at no cost . Love watching your adventures when your alone or with friends.

Beautiful winter wonderland, love the new woodstove ❤ your Home and Cabin are beautifully restored, crafted by Hannah. Just wondering did she finished the washroom in the smaller Cabin? 🦋💚🔥

I'm glad you were able to find a way to link the stove to the pipe. Thanks for adding a count down to Sunday vid in Instagram. That's very thoughtful and convenient for me. Sometimes I wait close to 2 hours and realize there is no vid. I saw this ancient otter repellent device in the museum. I think you can create this at home. Or I think you can lay a mesh over the pond. As usual, you'll probably have better ideas. As always, have fun and stay warm🥂

I EAT by these. These clips and the wisdom they show are very endearing. I just would appreciate having something similar for myself, but for now... don't mind this at all.
