He’s done it again boys and girls! Nice stuff mate. That looked equally beautiful as it did brutal. The light on the mountains looked like a bloody oil painting. Big ups to ya for braving a blizzard in a tarp tent. That would have been a looong night.

Canadian here! Something that might help with the snow blowing around in the tent in the future (and also help with the warmth): Once your tent is set up, shovel some snow all around on the base to create a barrier to prevent drafts from whipping through. Would also likely have helped reduce the amount of snow coming in as well

Thanks Mike! You know what’s wild and typically me, I did that on the other three nights I was out there in other locations and the one night I knew I had some wind rolling in I decided to forget. The joys of KZfaq and being too busy with the camera hey 😂 Very Very sound advice 👌 Thanks for watching mate! Always looking for new tips and suggestions 🙌

I always kept my boots, gloves, clothes in my sleeping bag to keep everything warm. Shove it all in a pillow case for a pillow or second pillow.
@TheSillySwagman
@TheSillySwagman 2 ай бұрын
Yeah some kind of bag that will keep all the dampness seeping through into the sleeping bag would be ideal! I usually do that inside a Bivi but the boots were covered in snow so didn’t want to end up with a soaked sleeping bag 😅

In Canada, we get snow anywhere from 4 months to 7 months of the year, depending how north or south you are. We embrace the winter, it's part of us. If you plan more snowy trips, invest in snowshoes, and a shovel, yes, but also a small sled. We don't carry our gear in the winter, we sled it behind us. Much easier. And the snowshoes hold your weight, not your weight and gear. Love your videos.
@TheSillySwagman
@TheSillySwagman 8 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, I appreciate that information, that’s really helpful! 🙏 I think a sled is a great call next time I plan on heading out in that much snow. Thanks for watching 😄
@BuckMckawtheotherone
@BuckMckawtheotherone 5 ай бұрын
@@TheSillySwagman By the way, the ideal sled is called a pulk. It has two crossbars on the tow ropes that prevents the sled (or the pulk) from hitting you in the arse when walking downhill, and it also makes it track better. Canadian winter travelers have videos on You Tube if you care to see what I mean. Cheers.

Wow! In the middle of winter you go hiking without your snow shoes & all that snow!!! I'm so glad I live in Western Australia lol where the closest I got to snow was climbing Bluff Knoll in Albany lmao. Mind you, I was originally born in the UK. However, I was very small when we immigrated. It was the best decision my parents made coming to Australia. Thanks for sharing your video with me. 🙂🫠🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

I'm not gonna lie, Mattsy, I really appreciate your philosophical speeches. They truly promote gratitude for life and wisdom. I appreciate your character mate, I truly vibe and resonate with you through your videos. How you act and the things you say I often laugh because its something I would say or do haha! - Your character; gives off that vibe of perseverance through trial and struggle and you display a sense of internal strength that doesn't give up. You contagiously spread gratitude and help remind others to enjoy the simpler things in life. And I truly appreciate your sense of humor - you seem to find the humorous and funny amidst the hardship and brutality that often comes through life experiences. As a sincere message to you mate, I sense that you carry pain in your heart, but also immense hope and strength, that in and of itself is powerful and will inspire many. You have so much potential in life and I want to encourage you to keep at it with your pursuit to escape the 9-5 grind and live out your dreams. I believe in you man. God Bless!

I feel you brother! Couple years ago I backpacked with my friend in shining rock wilderness in NC during a multi day snow event. 14+ inches of snow and neither of us had snow shoes. It was exhausting, and we barely made about 4 miles per day through those mountains. My feet were freezing, and I stopped to make an emergency fire because I was genuinely concerned my feet might get frostbite. My down quilt had accumulated moisture over the days and by the third evening it was tough to stay warm in my hammock. My 0 degree quilt was likely operating as well as a 20-30 degree one. Set off in the morning after taking a full hour to pry my feet into heavy, sodden, frozen leather and wool boots. Definitely an intense trip, and believe me I learned my lesson. Snow shoes next time. Keep getting after it man. enjoy every victory and learn from every mistake. I like the voiceovers.

Yet another great one Mattsy. I always love the life philosophy although my own would probably involve the mantra of always taking a 4 season tent with me in those conditions. I got hypothermia just realising you only had a tarp with you. But the Silly Swagman has done it again. 👍🏔☃🌨❄🏕❄ Keep them coming.

100% seeking out a 4 season tent as we speak 🤣🤣 Thanks though mate. Much appreciated. It was an amazing week and very much a roller coaster ride that I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing. 🙏

woah Matsy, that looked like a heavy go! i've done some camping in the Canadian winters and other than it being a bit colder (as you might expect) your conditions on this one were just as harsh as anything i've seen. take care of yourself man, it'd be no fun watching you get yourself all frost-bit and popsicled. 👍✌🖖

“A bit colder” 😆 Thanks for putting it politely mate, I appreciate it 😂😂 Yeah it pretty wild the way it just switched the way it did. I know it happens but to see it while I’m staying out there was pretty incredible and an amazing experience. And could not agree more mate, I’ll be sure to take care of myself. 😄🙏 Thanks for watching and supporting!

Hi Mattsy, another fab vid!! If your shoes are soaking and frozen a tip is pouring some hot water in them before putting your feet in! Also waterproof socks are the absolute bomb, i have sealskinz. 😊

Thanks mate! 🙏 The pack is a DG3 AW from Crossfire Packs. The two large side pouches are removable and it becomes a really nice 55L pack. Highly durable and extremely nice frame system. www.crossfirepacks.com/product/dg-3-aw/

Enjoyed video from comfort of my warm couch …. I think this tarp camping is a bit overrated in extreme winter conditions, could see that by your frozen facial expression 😂 the cocoon of a good tent would save some of the anxiety that your trying to escape from and keep your boots 🥾 dry …….🏕️ keep the content coming
