Decided to hike out for an overnight hike on the Coppermine Trail this week in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Have been itching for a nice winter camp and this really did the job. The trail very easy going and the snow levels were quite manageable. There was also plenty of snow around to make everything look beautiful.
The shelter was great spot to spend the night, and the falls in their semi-frozen glory really was icing on the cake... get it... ice....

Last year I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding caused by the pandemic, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video. If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone. If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6Uaqhl162tp3U.html Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/ Here you can learn about leave no trace (LNT) principles lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm

Thank you, homie. As someone who is soft spoken and timid in a way, myself, i find true passion in the way you capture nature with emphasis. You have seemed to separate yourself from the hiker community in how so many of them go for the big views, while you try to video the snow falling off pine.. it’s simply amazing.

Chris, nice job and Happy New Year to you and your girlfriend! This was such a mellow video but I so like your almost “ understated” approach. Nature rules in your filming and you’re just the backdrop. To me, that reflects a humility and soft presence that is so refreshing! Music was perfect! Rock on, my friend!

@@ChrisGoesOutdoors Also, try doing the backside of sandwich mtn. There's a shelter up there on a trail that doesn't go to the summit. It looks like it would be a good winter hike if you're determined to get out of the house for the weekend.

Bag worked out well. Was super toasty in it. I like the EE but I bought it before they made a design change. The waist area on mine is elastic and you cant loosen it which causes it to rise sometimes. Apparently they changed this so you can adjust tension almost immediately after I had purchased mine. Warmth though they seem to be pretty on par with each other to be honest

@@ChrisGoesOutdoors nice!! I hear ya! You hike in a ways in the winter with all the winter gear and theres a shelter available so why not for sure! I’ve just spent some breezy nights in shelters in winter where our bags got covered in snow. A buddy of mine and I used to just put a 5x7 hardware tarp from job lot over us if we were staying in the shelter in winter. Bags were a little condensaty in the morning but 20 minutes out in the sun and they were dry. Unless you’ve gotta north face ve25 to hang out in before sleepy time the shelter concept works pretty well for just chillin out. You guys weren’t worried about bears? I saw the eating in the bags in the shelter. I went on a trip up in vermont in November and I tried to use a tarp which worked ok just a little cold. Sooo… i have a one man naturehike tent from Amazon on it’s way. Just under 4lbs, freestanding and slightly secondhand. Should be interesting. Getting it for a little over half price. Sorry man!! I don’t get to dork out about gear with anyone anymore. Take care sir!!

I traveled for hours to get to a trail once and it was completely ruined by all the water bottles and toilet paper on the trail. There were trash cans and toilets at the trailhead. Also, here in Louisiana it is in the upper 70s and the air feels like dog slobber. You're in snow and it feels pretty warm?
