Decided to go out and hit a 30ish mile loop to hit 5 mountains (Mt Parker, Mt Resolution, Stairs Mountain, Mt Davis, Mt Isolation). The idea seemed good at the time... with the exception of the 90ish degree heat, the outrageously high humidity, the massive passing thunder storms, and the rising waters of which I had to cross multiple times to get out in one piece. Overall though it worked out, but this was definitely one of the more memorable trips I have done in recent history. I don't think I was truly dry the entire time. Ended up around 29 miles today and about 6000ft of elevation gain/descent
The route I took
Rock Branch South Trailhead
Rocky Branch Trail to Rocky Branch Shelter
Stairs Col to Davis Path
Davis Path to Mt Parker Trail over Mt Resolution and to Mt Parker
Backtracked back to Davis Path and followed to Stair Mtn
Followed Davis Path to Mt Davis and Isolation
Followed the Isolation Trail (East) back down to the Rocky Branch Trail
Followed Rock Branch Trail back to car

During the pandemic I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding on the trail, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video.If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone. If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6Uaqhl162tp3U.html Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/ Here you can learn about leave no trace (LNT) principles lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm

It’s been ridiculously humid lately. I suffered my first case of dehydration last weekend. It certainly was a moist day. It was wetter than being in the rain.

I drank 6 Gatorade packets and a whole ramen seasoning just on that first day. Absolutely nasty out. Same for me on wetness level. My clothes were glued to me haha

Another great video, Chris. Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures. What a crazy season it has been. I love that area along/near the Davis Path. The tent site (I’m assuming) you stayed near the Stairs summit is one of the coolest in the Whites. Not sure if you’ve aware, but there’s a terrific viewpoint (often called “South Resolution”) about 0.6 miles below Resolution on the way to Parker. You can see the short path on apps like Gaia. Truly, it’s one of my favorite spots in the Whites.

I actually went down the South Resolution turn off. I missed it completely going toward Parker. It kind of blends into the trees but caught it on the way back toward resolution as i luckily picked my head up passing it. I did not stay long at all as I had a feeling the rain was going to ruin my day and I needed to keep pushing on. It is nice!

We just did this trip 2 weekends ago the opposite direction. You should have waited a couple of week because the "carwash" has been cleared out! We kept waiting to hit the trees over the trail but someone did a ton of trail work. Awesome video as always 👏

You're disappearing before our eyes! Hiking those miles must be a lot easier a few pounds lighter. Looking good, good for you. I did moosilauke a month ago, and was cursing myself for those extra 10 lbs. Those river crossings were terrifying. Yikes.

I see the black fly's still own the summit of Mt. Parker still. Haha.. The Mt. Parker trail from Resolution to Paker was a blast to hike it was cool to see nature taking it back and wild in spots. Was tricky at the time to find it coming of Resolution too.

i noticed on the way to Parker from Resolution there were stretches that looked like hadnt been traveled recently at all. Like the path as seemingly gone and it looked like grass has started growing back in the area. Very cool!

Hi Chris! Great to see you out there man!! Awesome sound capture of the thunder! I had my earbuds on when the thunder rolled and it was awesome! Ive often wondered about takin a trip through this area and i still do. Just maybe in September 😁👍🏼. Hey Chris! I was wondering about the pouch that holds your phone on your pack strap. Is that a can of bear spray behind the phone? I’m only asking because i want to carry bear spray with me and I’m looking for convenient ways to carry it so it’s accessible. Thank you again for all the filming work that you do! We all very much appreciate it very much. Take care sir! NQU

Always look forward to your videos Chris! This type of exploration is very cool. The Rocky Branch crossings looked very intimidating for me. FYI the reason that trail is relatively flat is the path mostly follows the Rocky Branch Railroad right of way. Keep on keeping on!

@ChrisGoesOutdoors
@ChrisGoesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I treat everything with Permethrin about every 5/6 weeks. Shirt, pants, socks, shoes. They are definitely around in the Whites but I have only ever found a handful on me out there ever and it was always on my clothes. Typically when I get lax on the permethrin treatments or use clothing I hadnt treated.
