Winter Escape to a Remote Ancient Bothy by a River.

A five mile hike in winter conditions to a remote secret bothy next to a gorgeous river with snow melting from the mountains beyond. I cook a meal by a blazing fire in a cosy ancient bothy and spend a peaceful, if chilly night. The hike back is by the river where i enjoy (read endure) a frigid dip below the falls. What a fantastic trip this was!!!

Great video of The Shepherd's Hut. Fantastic that you didn't give away its location. I've been several times and was even lucky enough to share one evening with the group that maintain it. All loved the place and it's easy to see why. A special place, Cheers for the vid.

A old fell walker from Alston i bumped into years back told me his grandad and great grandad had been going over to the bothy even before he was born and was saying he thought it was atleast 400 year old but obviously its had a new roof etc as there was no corrugated sheeting till 200 years ago, good to see you getting out regular again.

Ah cheers man. Yeah I loved it and the walk back, although boggy and hard on the knees and hips, was bliddy gorgeous following that burn. Might have to camp down that valley this spring. Cheers mate

That was a fantastic film Dave, your such an interesting character and an inspiration. I did think it was Crossfell but I’ve only been that way a couple of times so I’m not familiar with your route. I’m hoping to go over cross fell this year as I missed it out on the Pennine way due to high winds. I love a bothy too but I’m not familiar with this one maybe you could let me know the location and I could include it in my trip rather than the more popular one on the north side of the mountain. I like the drone footage it looks great. Anyway ATB 🙏🏕️

Great video but have to correct something you said. Grouse can't be hand reared, all grouse on the moors are wild anybody who thinks different are misinformed. 17:59
