I was born in Duluth, but only lived there until I was six. I do remember watching the ships coming and going from our fire escape in our apt. These videos and live cams bring a felling of comfort. Again thank you!

@@vibewithmike It is amazing how refreshing it feels if a person bundles up in some warm winter gear! I'm glad you enjoy it too! The challenge is keeping the fingers warm and unexposed for too long. But once you get the right mitts, its great! Always a nice feeling to have a warm building nearby too! ;) But you are right out there in the open, and it is cold by that big lake! Ralphy! How the heck are you? I hope you are doing good. It was really exciting being out there checking out a ship, especially the largest one on its way to winter layup. I thought it was so cool out there seeing the big crowd and they were really cheering the ship on. it was awesome. I know it’s cold there in St. Paul but I want you to think about this. Someone told me that it is 74 days until April 1 and we both know the warm weather will be coming. I hope you’re doing great man. God bless.

@@vibewithmike I've been doing my best to stay inside. Mother nature is definitely off her bipolar meds. Remember it was 40 and raining just 3 weeks ago for Xmas? Playstation gave us a free game called nobody saves the world. It was pretty awesome. The first NPC I talked to pointed out the fact I wasn't wearing pants. I thought "Holy crap this game knows me!!!" I beat it already.

Hello Mike… Greetings from Frozen Sparta Tennessee… have you been keeping up with Tennessee weather? I’m about an hour and Forty five minutes from Nashville and we have been snowed in with 6-8 inches of snow and brutal blizzard weather here. I’m glad that you asked that question, I’ve been wondering the same thing about the horns. I think the old-school steam horns had a different sound, but now there are some of these modern horns that definitely sound different especially the last few years. I’m going to look into this.

I think that’s the final appearance of our boat friends snowman, it was so fun to have them out there checking things out. Lumpy, he was hoping that the temperature stays the same for the next 12 months, I don’t think I’m OK with that.

Hi guys I have been around boats all my life and going through the comments There is a trend every body is happy for the crews because they get some time off to go home and spend time with their families ! That is true for the majority of the crew but for some they dread the end is here If they don't work they don't eat After a couple of weeks it will be really hard times till they can get back on a ship again Have a great day !

@@vibewithmike Hi Mike When you look at the big picture it is the "pulse of the industry " Not only the big ships them selves there is lay offs right across the industry Every body Knew it was comming those that prepared will be ok Those that never prepared will have to " suck it up ! " Waiting in the wings a new crew ready to jump on and do the necessary repairs and turn the ship around pushing the clock to get it ready for it first trip on time ! We at Boat Fiends are fortunate to have you capturing the majesty if the ships when they go by ! When it it blows its horn it is like a "living entity " you can feel the vibration right to the bone ! So the Boat Friends Snowman is going into winter layup too. Great piece. Loved the crowd interaction with the crew. If you do any offseason productions you’ll have to bring the Snowman along so we can get a look at him.

it always amazes me how Duluth citizens love the cold and snow. Down here in Central Texas we hit 10°F so I had to turn my water off since Saturday night. (I live in a 150 year old house with water pipes in a crawl space, they are insulated but that is good for a maximum low of 20° for a few hours.) Love seeing the people, dogs and ice/snow. You are some pretty hearty people to love that weather. (Yes, I have been to Duluth in late December.) You guys treat the winter like Texans treat the summer. We say 'bring on the heat', you say 'bring on the snow', different but the same. I like watching the ships in the cold canal. Love your snowman too!

I really was amazed by how many people actually showed up on the pier to watch the ship. Yes, it was the last time we will see it until the next shipping season in a few months but my goodness, for a Wednesday night and that cold. There was a lot of people out there. It was really fun. @mattharper588 that’s exactly right, water, running, slowly, will make all the difference. Actually in Duluth, people that have cabins they will allow them to run their water without getting charged if they are not there.
