We are currently leasing a Honda Pilot 2021 and they are right on the money....with their take on the Pilot....its the best vehicle I've ever driven in the snow.

Had a van loved it, can’t beat the space , now a pilot.... love it, awd is fantastic! 2 kids over 10 years old so it’s the perfect size but when they were babies car seats play pens etc the van is the way to go , lower load in height, kids don’t hit the car parked next to you with the sliding doors

The ground clearance and AWD were the deciding factor when we bought our pilot. Especially since the pilot and Oddesey cost the same amount. The 2016 pilot has been awesome!

Minivans are great but this video was about AWD testing on snowy roads. Not cargo room. right? We had a Sienna before we bought our pilot, and we loved our Sienna. But our kids got older and we felt we were done with the minivan. We bought the AWD pilot and its impressive with the AWD system. Very good. It reminds me of my jeep with Quadra drive.

I love my pick ups but I do like Honda Pilots. I had a 2004 Pilot with 450,000km. Solid vehicle! Aside from routine maintenance. No issues ever!

The Honda AWD starts off in full AWD, and it shuts the rear axle off above 18mph, only to come on when slip is detected, it’s my favourite AWD system. I have it in my 13 Ridgeline, never had an issue driving in snow.

Safety is my #1 concern for my family . Not 2 extra inches of leg room . That's why AWD is a must ! . I chose Pilot instead of Odyssey because it's safer in Canadian winters when we have snow potential 8 months out of the year

Helpful hint...if you want to slide it around a little, Mud mode allows all the wheel spin!

I am finally just moved from 2019 odyssey touring to pilot BE 2021 and I loved the change to be honest. I found the room was plentiful in the odyssey for sure, but the raised clearance and pano roof really sold it for me. I don’t know when they didn’t bring forward the “break hold” feature, this I do miss. Also the cruise in the 2022 odyssey will stay activated under 35km, In fact you can go right to a stop with it and and also start moving again..but it didn’t on 2019 odyssey or in the 2021 pilot. I so far like the change. Less space but this proves that we need to be more organized.

A few months ago, I bought a 2021 Pilot Special Edition AWD. Mine has the same blacked-out trim and wheels. It has been fantastic in the snow and has a very good ride. Great review!

@TruckKing I am debating hard between 2024 Honda Pilot Trailsport, and 2024 Subaru Ascent. Apart from daily commute in winter through slushy Minnesota highways, will also be making winter road trips across North American snow belts, often over unplowed country roads. Having played with both vehicles, which one would you guys recommend, with focus on snow handling, and reliability?

Does the Honda AWD system engage all 4 wheels all the time or only as needed? How does honda AWD differ from the Toyota system or the suburu system?

Question for Matt: I have a 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E, 8k miles. Since new, the brake pedal is soft, smoochy, grabs lower than I expect. Dealer said normal, all the same. I drove another and it was. I drove a new Passport and it had a firm pedal. Is there a different, master-cylinder, Brake Booster, or even a firmer brake-pedal-spring on a Passport? I tried bleeding the brakes for the hell of it, no difference. Thoughts PLEASE!!

I wonder if the pilot/ridgeline will get the new 10 speed and detuned but torquey version of the new turbo V6

If you want the capability of this pilot with a more spacious third row, you might have to look at a minivan from a different brand. Unfortunately, Honda doesn't offer the Odyssey with AWD in North America. Other markets that have a smaller Odyssey have AWD. It's not as good looking as the North American models though, and it comes either as a I4 or hybrid with CVT.

Really don't care about the Pilot just want to make sure you get the views. Although Honda for the most part has always made great vehicles for the money.

I do agree with having a growing family of four to six. The minivan is the way to go.Guys swallow your man hood pride and get the van, trust me been there had the van. Easy to put car seats in and young kids and their stuff. Like high chair when you go to multiple places to eat,play pen / bed, bouncy saucers, strollers,toys , when they get older sport bags, lacrosse 🥍 and hockey 🏒 goalie bags that are the size of coffins .You would be thankful at the end. Don’t have to fight with your vehicle what you need to do as your daily tool.As I said in the past the mini van is the Swiss Army knife of vehicles 🚗.

Have a 2021 pilot elite. The inability to disable the 'Autostart' feature is only the start of the problems. Anti collision will hot the breaks for on coming traffic and hinda tech can reproduce but not resolve it. Again the feature must be disabled every time you start the car. The foot activated tail gate never worked. Again... the techs can reproduce but can't fix. It is my 5th honda and will likely be my last.

wife just got 2021 Pilot , she is short and could see better out of Pilot. Would have gotten Odyssey to carry grandkids, but could see better in the Pilot.

So Mat was the PILOT and you Steve were the Copilot. You say buy the Oddysy...but if you want AWD then you have to get the Sienna because Honda has no AWD on their mini van.

Yesterday in Atlanta traffic a Pilot was going in and out of traffic racing an Infiniti G35 or 37. Easy over 100 miles. I was truly impressed. I thought he was going to kill himself and others and crash couple times but he navigated around traffic and slammed the brakes in times. Infiniti driver was struggling to keep up lol.

How does the AWD compare to Subaru Ascent?

We had a pilot and traded it in a year later. The seating is terrible for kids getting in and out especially with car seats which was a deal breaker. Our new Sienna fixed that problem and it has AWD.

He's right. Buy the Odyssey unless you absolutely need AWD. I have a 2021 Pilot and also a 2006 Odyssey, which is one generation older than TK's. Much more room, far better visibility, and both the second and third row seats are far superior in the Odyssey. Buy a sett of Blizzaks for the winter and you'll be fine in most snow areas. Oh, and the front visibility in the Pilot is terrible when parking. That high prow /hoodline makes it very difficult to see. My Freightliner is far easier to park going forward. What does that tell you?

Why can't more mainstream cars have interesting designs? I'm not a Jeep or Land Rover fanboy, but those brands actually have design heritage which makes them more interesting. Pilot, Highlander, Atlas... they're all just so bland. Does good design actually cost more to do? It shouldn't. Why can't Honda, Toyota etc here real designers....

Add sliding doors from van and leg room. Put in pilot. You would have a better pilot. I have had 3 Odyssey’s. I would not buy another one. The odyssey needs AWD, better electric windows and less noisy ride.

Nice Odyssey Stephen! My daily driver is a 2015 Pilot EXL. I've owned it since it was new. It has 109,000 miles on it. And the maintainence has been very predictable. My Pilot also tows my 2200 pound Pop Up Camper on occasion without any issues. As a Honda customer, I would recommend either vehicle.

Sorry, but there is only 1 minivan, the dodge caravan. Why? #1 entertainment system #2 the 3.6 is a great engine, almost 300hp. #3 stow and go, seats fold flat, but the real test is that we drive between NS and Ont, 2200km+ each way. The stiw and go means no more luggage and pillows blocking the windows. And camping, excellent. #4 stow and go. Wait, I already said that... it's even better than a sub 8ft truck bed. You can toss a stack of drywall in a caravan and close it. Do that with 95% of the trucks on the road. A caravan can go to home depot in inclement weather and bring your drywall home dry. My 6'4" Ram can't do that. So the reality is, no SUV can replace a minivan. I find them to be no better in any situation than a car or a van. They all seem to be limited on space, especially the trunk, and typically have the same engines and clearance as their van counterparts.

It's a Honda run away do not buy they are junk these days
