When I saw the Wintergatan Marble Machine in March, I was totally speechless. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Martin Molin, the man who built it all by himself, is a pure genius with incredible musical and engineering skills. I really admire him.
I wanted to do some kind of tribute to it, but I wasn't sure how.
Soon I got an idea about redstone powered note block machine in Minecraft. I had seen some Minecraft note block song covers made with note block editor, but I wanted to create machine-like instrument by hand!
So after 3 months of hard work, I'm happy to introduce you my tribute to the Wintergatan Marble Machine! Redstone powered Minecraft note block machine! Made completely by hand, note block editor not used.
Please note that my purpose was not to make it look exactly the same as the original. I just wanted to make it look like some kind of machine.

Thank you. This is also one thing that I wanted to prove with this cover. It doesn't matter if something is mostly designed for kids or somewhat. If it's used cleverly, one can make pretty complex and ingenious stuff with it, just like Martin uses lego parts in his projects. And the same way in Minecraft, kids can feed animals or fight monsters, but Minecraft can also be a tool to create something more impressive if it's just used cleverly.

People who use Minecraft for the right purpose are rare. Like the map I'm making using resourcepacks, mods, inspiration from other games, and help from the guy I met at Minecon. His nickname IRL is JohhnyJizz.

I've heard a fair amount of note block covers of songs but this one is just amazing. It sounds so similar to the original and stays on beat nearly the whole time. (I say that because some parts were off beat but that's because of the fact you can only place blocks in a certain area).

Everyone can make music out of note blocks, but no one can ever be so accurate as to get the right rhythm, the beat, and the notes exactly right. I never seen something like this ever and it truly amazes me. Not to brag or anything, but I am a musician myself, i play in a few bands and you got all the slow downs and speed ups on point. You made some me think of some crazy things and I always think of make music out of note blocks and now I am encouraged by your insane build. I give you major props man. And your musicality is crazy. Good Job.

Seabass Gamming Many thanks! I'm happy that some guys acknowledge the slow down and speed up since it was the hardest part of the project, had to deal with half ticks and took dozens of tries to get the timing correct :D Good luck witg your projects, im happy to inspire someone!

@Cymetron Yeah even if there are tools to generate worldedit schematics from MIDI files, that can't account for small delays or differences between game versions that might change the way the timing works. Plus perfect Redstone timing is just annoying to begin with. I know I couldn't make something as good as this. Great job on making it. :D

You should make this once again, this time using the new noteblock sounds from the new snapshot that came out today. Using some packed ice under the noteblocks makes it a xylophone sound :D

Packed ice: chime. Bone block: xylophone. I've found using gold blocks for bell sounds works well in the song, too, seeing as I have attempted it with the new sounds.

This is so inceptiony... there is a melody that someone could play outright, but someone build a big machine to play it mechanicaly, than someone makes digital cover of that, but instead of just making that cover, he builds a digital big machine to play it. :D Great job btw.

This reminds me why minecraft is one of, if not the best game ever created. The ability to have infinite power, no limitation. It's not just some fun party game to play with your friends while building houses and fighting each other. It can be so much more. And honestly, I forgot about this game until now. And yeah I agree, I love to watch others' covers of it! And it's wonderful to see how in so many different covers, there is nice feedback from other cover makers! It almost feels like some kind of "Marble Machine cover -community" is born :D

Very good cover! I'm surprised, actually. Normally these Minecraft song covers always have many imperfections (e.g. notes are a few ticks too early/late), but every note in this seemed to be placed perfectly in time with the song. Great work!

Just once, I'd like to see someone create a noteblock 'instrument' that uses just one (or a couple, maybe) noteblocks for each note, and just repeats the redstone signal to it to get repeating notes- instead of these sequencers.

Good job getting all of it synched properly! It's the best use of minecraft-as-an-instrument I have heard. Usually all songs have really awkward timing between all of the notes, but this is as close to perfect as I think is possible :)
