Kai and Jukka replaced two longtime members of Nightwish, and both were honored to be asked to come onboard. Kai was a drum tech and longtime friend of Jukka the drummer, and personally asked Kai to replace him, which speaks to both Jukka's love and respect for Kai, his friend and mentor. Jukka the bassist is the newest member of Nightwish and has openly spoken of his love for Nightwish and his respect for Marko, that guy is a legend, his words. Jukka is killing it on bass, and as you saw in this video has a voice, would expect to see Tuomas using that voice anytime now, that Jukka is named an official member of Nightwish. Jari, the lead singer of Wintersun, stated Jukka has the greatest low gutteral voice of anyone he has ever heard.

The drummer in this is Kai Hahto, who is currently Nightwish's drummes, just like the bassist in this, Jukka Koskinen. The vocalist, Jari Mäenpää, is the heart and soul of Wintersun. He is the composer & multi-instrumentalist, who unfortunately lost 25% of one of his lungs to tuberculosis while serving in the Finnish army.

Excellent reaction. Animal should have been here for this one, Kai puts on a master class of drumming (and the other musicians are also pretty good). I am normally not a fan of growling, but the mix of clean vocals and growls Jari does in this song really fits the vibe and flow of the song. As many others have pointed out, Kai the drummer and Jukka the bass player are both part of Nightwish. Notice that Jukka sings backup vocals, so perhaps he will eventually take over the role Marko played. Wintersun is still rocking and currently working on a new album but I have no information when it will be ready. There are four parts to this song, and to me the lyrics are about a journey to fight a battle/war and all the questions and doubts that follow. Oh Animal, where art thou? 😉 Anyhew, there's still enough "Time" from the same live rehearsals. Kai & Jukka are both in Nightwish. Together with metal girl Floor they give me hope that the metal will be brought back to NW with the upcoming album. As a leftie drummer who learned to play as a right hander, I immediately recognized something in Kai's drumming. He's able to switch up left & right hand patterns like it's nothing. There's a drum playthrough that fully confirmed my impression and sure enough the comments revealed that Kai's a natural born leftie. The blast beat drumming, the time signature changes, the sick syncopation at the start of the second part, the playing 4/4 over 6/8 etc (probably have that wrong-ish), the rhythmic permutations and displacement acrobatics, the out of this world countermelodies on guitars which give this piece a definite classical feel and then that part starting at 11:41 .. absolutely fantastic. I love everything abt Jari's voice and the "silence" at 12:08 really is the cherry on top. After hearing this masterpiece, I couldn't fathom anything from them to surpass this. And then there was "Time".. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

Their latest album, from 2017 The Forest Seasons is worth checking out too, really amazing. Songs about the 4 seasons, spring,summer, autumn and winter. Always great to watch you, but did miss The Animal, hope he will watch this and be there more often with you guys.

(sorry for the oblique reference to Battle Beast) As amazing as Kai is on those drums, Jukka is doing insane work and is just sync'd up like a Don Prudhomme power train. My personal favorite bit here is that 'acoustic/vocal' interlude in the center, when the harmonies take a distinct on a Danny Elfman/Nightmare Before Christmas sound. Someone, quick, figure out that chord progression. This is just a wonderful example of what music CAN be like, if our imagination is turned loose and a second pot of coffee is brewed at midnight.

Tuomas refers to Stephen King... The drummer, Kai, and bass, Jukka, are also with Nightwish now :) Great for me to hear guitarists appreciate what is going on! Jari screaming is not my sort of thing, but at least he doesn't do it all the time. The peaceful bit in the middle, the harmonies, followed by the "Thunder" :) Lots of tracks were used... I wonder if Tuomas will make use of Jukkas voice, I hope so. Kai gets a work out.

And the greatest thing? The best pieces are yet to come ❤😅 And btw, there is no female vocals. It’s Jari’s feminine side which you hear there 😂

This shows the pedigree of Kai and Jukka as musicians par excellance, Wintersun is a Project band of Jari and been going ofr a long time though they have only put out 3 albums. Kai has done a drum workshop playthrough of Sons Of Winter ans Stars which is well worth watching.

WIntersun still exists, but its all based on Jari, the band leader, it's completely his project. He's a notoriously slow worker, and has released three Wintersun albums over 18 years so far. They do occasional tours, but it's been a few yerars since they've done anything.

Kai Haato is in Nightwish and came from Wintersun in which he still is , the replacement for Marco from Nightwish as a bassist is from Wintersun too , i guess he is still in Wintersun as Kai Haahto is . Wintersun is still around , Nightwish sneaked in and grabbed some Band Members , but as i said , they are still in Wintersun too . Nightwish is the bigger and more known Band of both .

A song I would think that you would like better is Wintersun ”Time” much more normal song and insane texhnical playing. Heard the part of going in to battle. You should check Swedish band Sabbaton with ”Livstid i Krig” with English subtiles in Göteborg. That is a Concert that every band would want to do. Just Check the response of the public.

I was afraid you started from deep end of battle and uplifting side. Sound of wall gives you more and more details even after 100 listening. Actually band its as versatile as Nightwish in motions. Time is middle of scale but still another masterpiece. Land of snow and sorrow goes to more Finnish and melancholic side which is beautiful with more clean vocals. Other side of deep end is Loneliness which Jari composed and made to his fathers death. You need tissues for that. Band was never radio friendly or US friendly with overlong songs. They are not songs. They are journeys. Modern classical composes. So reliefed that you find harmonys and beauty from sound of wall. Waiting to complete to loneliness…the other side of deep end. Favourite reactors at the moment:) Btw…Wintersun is still alive and waiting for next album coming soon.
