To put this into perspective I happen to be a black woman. Do half of y’all got nothing better to do with ur time then to criticize n belittle ppl u don’t know? I for one think if white ppl wanna wear dreads then it’s their business. One culture can not lay claim to any hairstyle. If you don’t like it that’s ur damn business. Besides I’ve seen so many black girls relaxing their hair to make it straight like a white girls so can any of y’all really talk? If you don’t like it thats one thing, but DO NOT make fun of white how want dreads cuz y’all would be pissed if a white girl made fun of you for wantin straight hair. Some of y’all need to get a damn life.

This is how locs are done for straight hair. Black people merely twist or palm roll if anything. All this ripping, backcombing and using tools is a sign that it's not ideal for straight hair.

black hair is much easier to dread... get some gel.. part hair.. twist tight... clamp down.. let dry... boom dreads... I think white people should try the back combing techniques... comb parted hair backwards starting from roots... until the end... after that simply palm roll the dread... I see a load of racist comments... 😂 but I'm black and I've had dreads for 4 years.. I honestly don't give a shit who gets them... go for it! 😉 #Rastafari #FlyLifestyle

This is something new to me. I'm African American and have never seen locks done like this before. Because of the texture of our hair, all of this (rubber bands, crochet hooks) is not necessary. Our hair locks naturally as long as it's not combed. I've got nothing against people of other races locking their hair. This method is jus strange to me.
@saltandsriracha
@saltandsriracha 8 жыл бұрын
+Kimberly Griffith This method she used does seem like a lot of work. I'm Caucasian and I did just plain old twist and rip with mine. I didn't use anything but my hands. Caucasian hair can also be neglected and it will dread on its own, but it takes more time than African American hair, I'm sure! P.S. Thank you for your support with other races locking their hair. Much love. :-)

@Userkaf_II
@Userkaf_II 6 жыл бұрын
African hair is not neglected. The difference is genetics, black hair is simply shaped differently than white hair, the hair is a spiral, not straight. European hair is not meant to twist or lock because it can't naturally hold itself or retain shape, you have to let your hair literally collect oil and dirt just to get it to turn into a dread. Africans don't have to do that because of coarse the hair is, black hair has more retention strength than white hair, which basically has none. ;)

MicKayla Smart I saw a "watch me how I comb out my hair" video or something like that (the girl was with long Caucasian hair), and she just brushed the locks so brutally, pulling and such, her hair was completely ruined by the time she finished combing. So I guess it does depend on the way you brush it, and the type of hair - I'm absolutely sure curly hair needs a little less kneading to look good, whereas straight hair needs a lot of twisting and such.

Honestly, when I wake up in the morning, my hair needs to be detangled in a way I feel I should be better off with dreads. In Europe, the Celts use to have dreads too. I have Celtic genes, so maybe this is why my brush hurts so much in the morning and my hairs breaks from trying to detangle it. I know the crochet hook is used by my white dreadlocked friends, while my black friends have a diffent way. Only my Asian friends cannot pull it off so far.

All you who are freaking out above "cultural appropriation"... I wonder how many of you straighten your hair, dye it blonde, or wear a weave? What's the difference? Mohawk haircuts come from the Mohican Indians. I don't see them having a problem with people of all races wearing Mohawks. In the 70s, white people were getting perms so they could have afros, and nobody squawked about it. This generation has gotten so crazy sensitive that everything offends them. It's just someone's fashion choice, and has nothing to do with your culture. Dreads have been around since the beginning of time in all races. Lighten up!

This is a thing called insta-dreads. Out of expirence people with thin, straight hair have to do a different method than a person with kinky, curly, thick hair. This method helps the hair not to slip against itself and come loose. This method is very damaging, using the hook expecially two months in if you continue you to corchet it causes breakage in the core of the dread and down the road some dreads could fall out.

I don't know how I came across this video lol, but the comments are rude for no reason. If someone wants to do something with their hair then they can, well because ITS THEIRS. I honestly don't care if someone of a different race wants to do this with their hair, because after all, a good amount of us wear weaves and such so I don't see what the big deal is. This whole thing is just unnecessary.

I hate how many people are showing hate on this video just because the people are "Caucasian". I don't know why so many people feel like this is appropriation of "black culture". what do you think people's hair looked like before the invention of hair brushes? What do you think vikings looked like? This is everyone's culture, except maybe Asian, and even then, asian hair dreads quite nicely. This is how hair would form naturally without current cultural constructs, it has very little to do with Caucasians trying to mimic African-Americans

I love your videos but OCD is not about being annoyed with a few hairs sticking up. I have lived with OCD for 16 years and I can tell you it is a life changing mental disorder that effects every aspect of someone's life. I am not upset that you used OCD in an incorrect context because frankly a lot of people do, however I thought this would be a good 'teaching moment'. I would like to encourage you to research what real OCD is. I just want to spread awareness, because a lot of people don't have much of an understanding about OCD because it isn't really talked about much by actual sufferers. I wish you a lovely day, and if you have any questions relating to OCD I am always happy to answer anything big or small.
