You make good points, a lot of hunters are lazy and don't take care of their stands in the off season, both ladder and hang on stands. If my ladder stand is in a good spot I take it down after season or loosen the straps because yes they can grow in to the tree. In my opinion the $60 dollar ladder stands are not worth using. Yes easy to put up but they sitting on one for 4 or 5 hours at a time. If your short the seat is too tall, if your tall it's to short and there's no room for anyone. I personally like the 1.5 man stands that get your back away from the tree, have plenty of leg room and comfortable seats. Relatively easy for 2 guys to hang and stable once up. We also use hang ons for different locations where on the ground isn't a option and you don't want to drag a ladder stand into the area. I think all stands have a place and a use depending on the conditions, I personally like big stands they're just more comfortable for long sits. We always use a life line and safety harness because you just never know. I think the main thing is get the best you can afford and place it secure and use a harness, safety is number 1 and you're not going to get ole mossy horns laying in the hospital with broken bones. Nice video 👍

The creaking sounds can be easily eliminated by using black electrical tape - works like a charm...

My wife hunts exclusively out of one. We also hunt together out of a double one. I got to watch her shoot her first buck and a doe out of one!

so do you think the deer get used to looking at the ladder? and at what time did you get in the stand? Early in the dark?

another "Pro" is you don't have to set up ( or carry your stand in with you ) every time you go to hunt. You walk to it, climb up, and your hunting. .

Wrap electrical tape on the ladder joints…..significantly reduces noise.

I like my hang ons but at 63 my family tries to keep me out of them, We have over 25 stands on our 360 acres, 4 enclosed box blinds 3 tower stands and 3 or 4 hang ons the rest are ladder stands of different size , height and brand, I agree that some of them have way to small of a platform and leave you out away from the tree to far, My favorites allow you to fold up the seat and get back against the tree with large platforms,. I have had bucks and does many times walk right up to the ladder and smell and even lick it not long after i climbed up.

I have 27 ladder stands on 5 farms, I use them as a base for my saddle hunting. I have nack for putting them in branches in the tree so I’m not standing out. I check them every summer and replace straps when needed. I only hunt private farms so theft has never been a problem. Cant tell you how many times I’ve had deer beds 3 yds from my stands, deer get use to them just like anything else in the woods..

Several brands DO NOT have a large enough foot area. You need plenty of space so you can stand AND AND turn your feet as needed. These are better for semi permanent locations. We have 9 of various models and some have had more foot space added. Can’t remember the brand that have too small a for platform or I would tell you. These are inherently major dangerous and should have never been made and sold. Silence them in certain ways using foam pipe insulation wraps like on the armrest. I also cut pieces of skateboard grip and put strips on each step rung for traction when wet or muddy. Don’t use those stupid hole “ pins” as they are useless and noisy. Use bolts/nuts with lock washers to stop squeaks and metal popping sounds. I have also put carpet on the foot rest area with wire ties to kill the noise of boots on the expanded metal. Use a lot ties so the carpet doesn’t move at all. Thin commercial carpet or those carpet tiles work best.
