Hi, great video! I was trying to clarify something that I didn't get answered in this vid. I have a large rambler house and I need at least two wifi network broadcasters, right now they have different SSIDs and I need to switch manually between them because devices hang on to the connection with the weaker signal even if it barely has a bar. I'm looking at upgrading my system, will access points handle automatically switching your device to the stronger wifi signal and all be on the same SSID? So I'll probably need two access points connected to a regular rouater?
@AmazingSpanoMan
@AmazingSpanoMan 2 жыл бұрын
Silly question. What happens if you put a wifi6 AP in your ceiling and wifi5 in wall? I'm guessing they will still use the same SSID and switch automatically but you will be limited by which AP your are currently connected to?

Would you recommend the Netgear WAX214? I have a 3300sq ft home. It is currently being built so I don’t know the dead zones. It is 2 story. My plan is to purchase 3 of them and space them out evenly from left side to right side of house and mount them on the ceiling of the second story to push signal down. I feel that 3 is more than enough hopefully. I only have spectrum cable so I wont be getting crazy speed just want to have the coverage for future proof when speeds increase.
@UltimateTechHub
@UltimateTechHub 2 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good plan. I have the Netgear WAX630 AP and it covers 3500 sqft which is usually plenty for most homes. And with this model you can wirelessly add more AP into a Mesh network configuration. If you are building your home make sure to run cat6 to every room and I would run 2 cat 6 to every room. And also run cat6 to your future access points locations for the PoE connections. Also install a network panel so all of the cat6 meet up at that one area where your modem is installed.
@idlesquirrel
@idlesquirrel 2 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateTechHub yes I had planned to run cat 6a also to all the main rooms bedrooms/living rooms. But may I ask why 2 to each room? My plan at first was to put my router in the main living room but then I started looking into the POE access points and thought this was a way better idea and not so much of an eye sore being they are white and will match the ceiling. I do have an 8 port Netgear poe+ switch coming in as well for the access points. I know I would want my main tv source and main computers hard wired but the other hard lines are more for just in case. Just wondering why 2 in each room? I will also have the 4k defender series 8 camera installed. Which those aren’t using ethernet just hooked to it for online access. I had planned to put everything in the downstairs pantry as it is the most centralized location and isn’t a hot area like the attic. Also will the signal be ok mounted on the ceiling of the second story for downstairs access. I feel it will be but not sure. I live in a 2 story now and some areas upstairs are spotty with the wifi signal. The router is a Netgear R7400 AC2600. It is located downstairs on a bookshelf about chest height.
@UltimateTechHub
@UltimateTechHub 2 жыл бұрын
@@idlesquirrel The reason you should have 2 Cat6a lines is for expansion and just incase 1 cat6a fails you have a backup. Also that extra cat6a can be used as wall fishing tool to run additional wires like coax or speaker wires or more cat6 cables. The only downside is the extra cost of the additional cable. And the pantry location is fine as long as its not hot and its secure from any issues like kids or animals. You may want to run a cat6a to your front door for a ring doorbell or another brand. The ceiling mount is good for the upstairs but an additional access point should be mounted in the ceiling of the downstairs. I had this situation in my old house and the Wi-Fi was not consistent downstairs especially with lots of users. The access points can be setup as a mesh network and will work together for fantastic wireless coverage. I'm not familiar with the Netgear R7400 AC2600 but it probably only covers 2000 sqft and a 2 story will most likely have some dead zones depending on the routers location.

You could just install a cheap Mesh Wi-Fi system that has 2 or 3 nodes. You would install the main Mesh Node where your wireless router is via a LAN port from the router then set up the mesh wi-fi with the required app. Then place the other 2 nodes, maybe 1 or 2 in your backyard under a patio for weather protection. That would solve your wireless problem. Here is a video I did on a cheap mesh wi-fi system. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aLmHhpt3mK7apIk.html FYI- this giveaway is already over.
