Your switch is up side down, usually up is on and down is off. Great video and the locker should be of great help.

Nice job Eric! That wrecker may not look like much, BUT, it is one heck of a machine! I like the care that you show when working on it. Some people are the hurry up hammer it together type and that leads to sloppy builds and breakdowns. I didn’t see you taking shortcuts or doing anything half way, you took the time to do it the correct way, maybe even go above and beyond to make sure it holds together. I am gaining a lot of respect for your work!

Those inner bolts would do well with tube spacers between the leaf spring retainer plate and the case. The diameter would take the side loads off the bolts. They would have to be within a few thou of right, but well worth it :o)
@jewellgypsy7033
@jewellgypsy7033 2 жыл бұрын
You're right about a solution to eleviate the twisting of those bolts,even three is still not enough..but a solid shim would reduce that twist further than tube spacers..I can't see that that's a factory standard fit without and shims to pull up against..

He mentioned in a previous video that he tried grade 8 and they broke more often than a grade 5. Not sure about an ARP hardened stud but he said the bolt needs the be able to stretch because the leaf springs twisting pry on them so much

Great cluster of do it yourself locker I have a 95 Silverado 1500 it's not an everyday driver I plan to redo the whole exterior to new conditions I also wanna make it a strait axle front with locker front and rear I wanna beef up everything drivetrain wise I'd like to put a 4l80e and everything. Cant wait to see the next video on what you go to recover. I love all your videos but if this is a recovery video like the one you did in the winter I thought that one was the best because you were off site doing some thing new more like an adventure.

Awesome video buddy!! I Still definitely like my ARB air lockers that I ended up putting in both my front Dana 60 and my rear 14 bolt full floater axel!! I have set them up wear I can just have the front axel ingauged with the back open or vise versa!! The best way I have found to get around when it is really muddy or even really snowy or icy out is just to have the front axel locked in!! It definitely helps to keep your front end wear it belongs and the rear wear it belongs!! I have noticed when having a rear locker engaged it tends to want to come around front of you!! I really don’t think people realize the way a posi traction works?? Heck even when we mud race we just run a front locker and it definitely helps us run are truck around the track and not get out of control!! Awesome video once again buddy!! Sorry I guess I just had to had all the extra!!

Hey Eric !!! Might be wrong, but those U-bolts seem to be too long for the spring as looks like they are bottomed out on the threads making them loose when the stress is added to them ?? Being an "OL"" Mom & Pop Mechanic ,, We had trouble with U-bolts on the "OTR"" trailers to keep them tight !! Any movement at all will cause those bolts to break on the other side of the spring too !! Enjoyed the videos !! Have a good week & ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!

@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 3 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for him, but back when I used to troll Jeep forums, I found that many would run a selectable locker in the front and an automatic one in the rear, so I know it's a common setup.

Time to throw a hydro assist on the ol girl. Kert at diy4x sells caps that have threaded fittings that just replace the caps on your steering box so there is no need to drill and Tap or even remove your steering box to put it together

The front locker completely ruins the steering unless you have fiddle brakes on the rear axel and then it helps steering. Why? I think the front tyres are both fighting each other and break traction making the whole vehicle turn easier. It did it every time, it wasn’t a fluke.

You do realize quite a bit more strength would be had on your three bolt setup if you actually set a stud that completely bottomed in each of the three possitions, and then run a nut of the swaged locking variety on those to hold it all together, your length then becomes non issue because you can just trim the stud after everything is tightened down, and your strength overall will increase nearly double using studs,,,,that's why proffessional engine builders use stud kits in the high stress critical areas such as main bearing caps and heads,,,,not to mention I used to run a dana 60 converted into an old Dodge Ramcharger I had built up some years ago, a pretty much built to the nuts 440 bored and stroked out to 525 cubes under the hood running through a NV 4500 trans into a dual transfercase setup using the reduction gearset out of a 203 into a 205 transfer case doubler kit all that running into a GM 14 bolt 1 ton rear fitted with a detroit locker and a dana 60 front fitted with an ARB air locker both running 5:13 gears and 40inch swamper boggers for rubber, and I broke plenty of parts and had the same issues breaking those spring bolts but when I did the stud trick I stopped having any trouble at all with it comming apart,,,,did the same three bolt trick as well as having a heavier thicker top plate built along with the stud trick and problem went away,,,,of course then it started breaking the next weak link,,,, that turned out to be breaking springs at the spring eyes LOL.

Seatcover! What are you doing wearing open toe shoes in a garage, much less liften a toe removal weight? Two demerits and 15 push ups. Safety first young lady, you would NOT look sexy with a missing bunch of toes. Nice to see that locker in action, all my lockers never worked that good. I've never tried either the air or electric but I have oft wanted to. Always thought the E would be better that's why the truck I drive now has an E in the rear factory. I think when I put the next trail rig together I'll do an E in both. RV I'm working currently don't care about such.
