Better then two years since your video and I have to say it's one of the best I've seen. Taught by my uncle on tractors and farm rigs we never were "anal" about measuring. On my first mud rig we went to the gnats --- with a local shop manager/ teacher and you've just given me more better ammunition for my next axle rebuild, THANK YOU! I don't wheel anymore so I am extremely happy seeing men and folks like you there to help those in need. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

I remember Zima... Don't know which is worst, knowing what it is or actually being old enough to remember it... Guess remembering is a good thing... Either way, great job Eric... Thanks for the lesson...

Excellent tutorial on this job. I've set up rear ends before, but never one of these. Interesting to see the differences.

What is slightly nifty to me is that I suggested the Eaton a while back. Eric said a front locker was in the works, but didn't know when it was going to happen. I put one in a dana 44 and really liked it.

Yeah back in the day we used to take hard jolly rancher candies put one or two in each Zima an hour before you drink them so it dissolves a little bit taste identical to the jolly rancher candy after that you ever find those things try it out it's amazing! 💯👍

I've done this tons of times but I'm enjoying the dialect ( OG CHEESE vivo en el apartemonto del Diablo) "goona wanna" and appreciate the in depth tour as opposed to the 15 min set up others have. Good choice and good job. I would have liked to see you use a hone to make up the slip fit bearings or a buddy with which you could donate that case of puke (aka white claw or Zima) for the use of a mill. However, I get the idea of use what ya got thus the heat. Remember the day when you could loose a little R12 at that locker to make them drop on even more slippery. Silglide is like unicorn farts or at least west of the Miss so it seems. GPC doesn't even inventory albeit they aren't a Wagner wd.

You can use a homeowner do you use in the motor block to hone out the cylinder walls would work just as easy and evenly hone out the bearing and drop it in that’s my thought why do the hard way when you do the easy way

Please Read! There was a very large error made. I don't want to see him wreck this. The pattern was taken only on the coast side. You can clearly see later in the video where the paint on the drive side is not even marked. Remember front axle is reverse rotation. Also based on the Pinion video I feel there is a really high chance that the pinion is not at the right depth due to another error by not knowing what the number on the g2 pinion was for.
@haroldphipps3457
@haroldphipps3457 3 жыл бұрын
The only reverse rotation fronts are the high pinion Fords. Those do run on the coast side. The Chevy Dana 60 front and most others do actually drive on the drive side of the gear. Also, pinion depth is correct, and checks out on the pattern test.

Ok I was always tough to pack my bearings but maybe that's just axle once. Could you set me straight
@irench
@irench 3 жыл бұрын
They are flooded and the grease will mess with your lash and preload. 35 years ago an old timer then told me I should pack full floating spindle bearings which are also flooded. That is kind of a waste, His logic was that the gear oil didn't flood the wheel hub soon enough and could damage the bearing on initial operation.

I just set up a Yukon posi in my 67 Chevelle rear end I have in my 86 Grand Prix and the carrier shim thicknesses were not even close to the carrier shims for the OEM Eaton that was in there. The Eaton carrier came out in 2 pieces. I use my micrometer instead of my caliper to measure the shims. My carrier uses many more shims than your set up and the micrometer is more accurate than the caliper.

Watching this video a few times. The pattern is horrible. And he only checked one side of the pattern. And watch when he is turning it with the ratchet compared to to using the bar torque wrench. He is using a hell of alot more than 45 inch pounds turning it with the ratchet.
