Wisconsin’s Walking Tours: Burlington’s Rich History (Segment)
Wisconsin has a deep history, and there are so many cities that have put a lot of work into preserving the story of their community. Mariah tours the downtowns of Burlington, Plymouth, Ashland and Waukesha to learn how each continues to keep their past alive and reminds us why that is so important.
Given its rich history and small-town charm, Burlington is the perfect Wisconsin destination to participate in a walking tour. The Burlington Historical Society (www.burlingtonhistory.org) constructed a clearly outlined walking tour for the purpose of informing individuals on the history of the town while also creating an exciting, immersive experience. The tour features an array of stops that highlight both the unique history and current flourishing businesses. Start your adventure today with the FREE brochure: burlingtoncham...
The expansive history of Burlington is central to Wisconsin’s as well. The heart of Burlington is Chestnut Street, which is home to many old, intricately designed buildings that have seen a number of businesses come and go over the years. Although the town of Burlington is home to historical landmarks, it is also home to new and trendy businesses, one of which is the Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine (www.burlingtoncoffeehouse.com), a delightful caffeine stop for the enjoyment of locals and visitors.
The Museum of Burlington Historical Society ( burlingtonwihistoricalsociety) houses a monument dedicated to Edward Dire, the founder of Burlington. The sculptor Tom Jones carved the monument from the same stone of his other famous work, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier that is located in our National Cemetery. Another enticing destination deeply rooted in Burlington’s history is the Log and Boulder Dam that was built in 1836 by one of Burlington’s first settlers, Moses Smith. The aim of building the dam was to start a sawmill business, which quickly blossomed into a booming industry and has cultivated what is now the flourishing town of Burlington.
Visiting Burlington also presents the opportunity to experience a show by the oldest performing theater group in Wisconsin, the Haylofters. Having performed in the area since 1932, watching a show by the Haylofters is the perfect opportunity to indulge in some entertainment while also getting a taste of Burlington’s history. See what’s playing this weekend: www.thehaylofters.com
Whether it be for enriching oneself in the history of Wisconsin, experiencing a show by one of Wisconsin’s oldest theater groups, or enjoying a delectable cup of coffee, Burlington is an essential stop for visitors.

Bacon jam burger from freds 😋. Cool ass video but that bank is definitely not the oldest building in Wisconsin. I got excited and thought to myself how cool.....but nope. Not that it takes away from the beautiful town. I love driving down chestnut then follow the riverside looking at all the cool old houses near.

@honeybare-ur8nr that's awesome living in an old servant house. I was just reading about the underground railroad being in parts of burlington today. That blew my mind. In Rochester as well. Also heard there are catacombs beneath burlington and that most of downtown was build on top of Indian burial grounds. I moved here not too long ago and I'm a paranormal investigator so I love learning history and finding cool old places that may have spirits frequenting them. Im very respectful comminicating but its a passion of mine.I've gotten some cool evidence at places in southeastern WI. I would love to investigate the malt house theatre I've heard it has had activity in the past. Also the guy working at family dollar said its haunted from that building to the salvation army building. He gave me some cool accounts of things happening in front of him and other employees. Sorry I'm a dork lol. If you have any leads of such places please feel free to tell lol.

@@Scooby1984that’s cool I love watching ghost hunting videos and shows and in Rochester chances is a hunted restaurant that used to be in the Underground Railroad and I got to stand on the stairs where people see ghost and when I was in the stairs something touched my back And nobody was behind me and I have been to the malt house a few times and it dose give off a hunted vibe.

@honeybare-ur8nr that's so cool. Look up skyler schaut in the youtube search. I investigated shakers cigar bar in Milwaukee. I had a full blow conversation with 3 distinguishable voices. It even said my name when I asked. So it used to be a brothel and on the 3rd floor a prostitute was murdered names molly. She was choked, burned and dismembered. I'm pretty sure I caught her dying blood curdling scream. We posted this video on fb and didn't realize there was a scream until after people noticed and told us. We did not hear it in person wich is pretty wierd. Take a look tell me what u think
