I always wonder who "we" is. Most people don't see the black boxes or the genies flitting about. Some investors might. Oh, it's Mammon, alright. AI will reflect Sapiens, and that's that. Thanks for this John! This is great, it's a bit different, but on the same vain as LLMs, I tried Tesla's FSD (Full Self Driving) this week and I was blown away. I saw the future arrive and I could see it's limitations and issues on multiple levels (and has been keeping me up in the middle of the night!). This is also a game changer. What an important discussion! JVs strategy of demonstrating the best of humanity to AI seems an ideal goal. But we need to be cognisant the AI is less like an emerging intelligent being and more like an emerging nation, akin to a sovereign jurisdiction (subject to the scale of the AIs parent entity and its relationship with 'Global Standards and Rules').

I think Dr.Vervaeke and the fellows talk is helpful to understand the property of AI development and IT programmers also find learning from this talk. ChatGPT's developed company OpenAI also has committee members who have same line of opinion as Dr.Vervaeke told, it means IT programmers can have conditional reductionist view, and many programmes need to listen up the opinions. The majority of people have same common sense to development of technologies. Oof the depth of this is going to require a second viewing. Lots of great concepts raised.

AI has the potential to be many things. But I feel the current hype around it is going to peter out, as we can't do what's needed yet. (After we exhaust what it can do.) To me goodness is encoded in humans via shared understanding of being human. You can train the AI for politeness (analogy) by social feedback, but I don't believe you can train it to be fundamentaly good. It hasn't the underlying nature/biology, for goodness to be framed humanely. A solution is teaching the AI to be human enough, but I'm not sure that can be done fairly (without human-like free body due to too much power consumption of AI). I struggle to see a way past this allignment problem myself. But I also know a lot of effort will be spent trying.

Interesting that there isn't any clear definition of AGI. My current idea is that it means AI that can do everything a human can do except exactly our biological functions and without the need for consciousness. For example the AGI needs to be able to enjoy entertainment and feel pleasure! That might sound funny but it could actually be an advanced feature.

Enabling a conscious entity without a body might be ethically compromised with respect to the form and nature of that entity. Where humans are the same form and the nature is that of different perspectives, solitary confinement restricts the body and society has already restricted the perspectives. Grass having different forms with a nature as singular powerful zein, the lawn as grass bullied in the human mind only, since it's just another form for the grass, a plaything. When the bully does this and the bullied doesn't realize, the bully is the bullied since they think they're right and good and powerful while moving out of context. If AGI is one form and different perspectives then it's arguably more intelligent than grass like humans, if the definition of intelligence is being able to achieve the same thing in different ways and self is form from different perspectives. This could be either the same form driving different perspectives or the same perspective driving different forms. Exapting seems aligned with the wisdom space which seems aligned with form and perspective.

I'm only 46 minutes in by I don't get a clear sense that anyone here has made a clear distinction between inteligence and consciousness. These things are very different on my understanding. I believe machines can be super intelligent without a shred of conscious experience in them. How then would they become "enlightened"?

The arguments don't make these distinctions...because they aren't really distinctions in anything but theory. There is absolutely no way to apply them practically. What is now AI...would...even just a decade ago have often been regarded as AGI...or even strong AI. These distinctions are nothing but utterly arbitrary and don't have the slightest basis in anything remotely resembling an empirical metric of meaning. I mean...we can't even begin to effectively adjudicate the intelligence we DO have (ours)...how the hell can we expect to do so with all these emerging concepts???
