About the podcast:
The more fallible a human being is, the more (s)he is true. This line of thought falls perfectly in place with Mahabir Pun- the man with whom we recorded this podcast.
When I visited him in the series of cubicles set within his living, breathing arium that is the National Innovation Center, he couldn't care less whether someone came to see him or whether they didn't care about him. He was toying about his everydayness with an unerring air of indifference to anything outside the girdle of his work.
He seemed to be like an old monk- someone who had talked enough and realized the meaningless, empty rhetoric of the outside world and chose silence instead, someone who wholeheartedly gave it his all to the perfection of his art, someone who despite having clear vision of innovation was constantly laughed at for not being innovative enough.
The criticism that hurt him the most were comparing his NIC to a second hand pawn shop- something that was rather inconsiderate of the critics. Innovation requires you to fail. And there was evidence enough that he did. And therefore, I saw a man wearing his faults in his sleeves. Imperfectly perfect in his own ways. Unfailingly failing in his methods. A human-not a celebrity whose air of aura tends to be mysterious but a person you could hate as much as you could admire, a person who was so down to earth that his gravity would pull you down even if you were the slightest bit up.

Mahabir Pun, like everyone in the universe, is a one of a kind. But he, quite distinctly, doesn't fall in "one" kind- he is an innovator, a scientist, someone who envisioned of bringing the Internet to the villages of Nepal, and now is living, breathing, and everything-ing National Innovation Center. His unapologetic tone, the blunt ways with which he has ridiculed Nepalese bureaucracy, and expressed his anger regarding some personal rifffraffs in public, have made sure that he is one of those rare public figures of our times: someone whose flaws have been appreciated as widely as his craft. In that sense, he, as a "public figure", has had no two ways about his image- his boisterousness is as transparent as his innovation. In this podcast, recorded at his beloved National Innovation Center, he talks about his transformation as a scientific figure in our country and of his center for innovation.
