I was hoping someone introduced romance novels. I was never into porn, but I believe the romance novels are more problematic. I started reading romance at 13. Romance novels require your full attention and immersion in the fantasy. The romantic fantasy cloaks the sin. Everyone knows to hide their porn because they know it is wrong. I was a virgin at your age too and I was also watching it then too in large part because I wasn't able to freely speak on sexual feelings I was having at the time with people who would point me to God. The only people I could be open with were non Christians who told me it was natural and normal. Although sexual desire is natural, obsessing over it is not. I suggest to find someone to point you to God, someone you can be open with about your desires and someone who doesn't find it taboo.

Months straight of rocking myself to sleep praying to be healed and listening to worship music as I tried to fall asleep. I found power in the testimony within this video of Pastor Kevin’s daughters story. Just knowing that she overcame it. Knowing that it IS possible gave me strength. I told myself, “it wasn’t always like this, so it’s not going to be!” The best advice I can give is: learn your triggers, stay present when you feel it creep up. You need to distract or trick your mind. If I start to feel anxious I freestyle in my head, things I see as I’m walking or sitting or wherever it tends to happen. It keeps me rooted to where I currently am. If you play an instrument, do that. For me acoustic guitar calms me and puts my mind on playing. Heck, if you don’t play an instrument, learn! It’ll give your mind soemthing to do literally activate new brain cells and pathways. There’s multiple Ted talks on the brain and functions. Once I learned you can literally change your brain and way of thinking, it unlocked a whole new outlook for me. No longer was I a slave to my fear and anxiety. But with time and repetition and speaking truth into it UNTIL it became true, I fought. And Faith was my fuel. I pray you find your own strength and when you can’t seem to find it, lean on His! Bless you, Emma. You’re not alone. Not today, not yesterday and not tomorrow. 💙💙💙

Love this! We have a similar story. I was introduced at a younger age. I never really knew what the root of it was even still to this day. Same year as you, I was heavily convicted and I got down on my knees, repented, and have been free since then. The masturbation part though.... that was another journey. I had to fast and pray to be free. I no longer have the desire for neither, no cravings, etc. I remember when I used to do it, I could also feel something leave me. Like something died inside of me. BUT GOD. Im freeee. Its still a struggle sometimes bc images flash in my mind from time to time. Constantly need my mind to be renewed.

and such an undiscussed part of that is the subgenre of fanfiction that fuels intimacy issues for soooo many young women and girls. we start by idolizing a human, and we continue by fantasizing about a sexual relationship with them and pursuing a written version of that. fanfiction is such a "ha ha ha, girls in the fanfiction/fangirl phase" kind of discussion most of the time, but it really puts so much intimate relationship with someone who is ultimately not there taking care of or pursuing you. as someone who really kicked off an addiction to masturbation with fanfiction, this is yet another way that the enemy is attacking young people almost completely under the radar.

I’m in my 20’s I was introduced to porn when I was like 9. Friends introduced me to that on tv . Imagine how easy is for the children now to be exposed to porn, if even with an iPad or a phone you have access to that. It’s sick. And it’s a problem. Thank you for being so vulnerable and open about the struggles of porn addiction, I personally wasn’t a big fan of porn but I loved romance novels and erotic stories but those started to feel boring to me, so I switched to porn and let me tell you every time I would watch it I’d feel so empty and gross inside. I knew it was wrong to watch it but I still continued because I was trying to fill a void. I even started telling myself that I don’t need marriage because it’ll be as uneventful as porn. So far it’s been a month since I’ve stopped watching porn or reading any erotic/romance novels, but I know that this is a battle that I will have to continue to fight through God’s help and strength.
