I’d Very much like to send you my love and thanks for your tutorial’s, often drawing reference to Faith and acknowledging Gods creation…. It gives me such an uplift to hear someone Outside Church to openly talk in this way and I commend you…. In the UK it’s virtually forbidden, but it never stops me 😌🙏☺️

Oh boy have I had trouble with vases, and I saw a great tip from The Frugal Crafter/Lindsay Weirich the other day. She used tracing paper to get her vessel symmetrical. The video is called "Tips for Drawing Symmetrical Things & More." She used graphite paper to transfer her image but for us it'd work better to just run pastel over the back. I'm going to try that!!!

Great idea. My mind was blown the other day watching an older video of Les Darlow using alcohol markers, and markers he'd filled with inks, on top of PanPastels! (He was using Pastelmat). Proves we just have to experiment to find all kinds of techniques!

Wow! That sounds so interesting. And you are so right…. Playing and experimenting is so fun!

Ok Susan, I have a question! I cut off a bit of a pool noodle for blending since that's what I had around. It works great for blending on my homemade clear gesso surface, but I do notice it shreds and sheds bits. Makes a mess! My question is: does the pipe foam insulation do this too, or is it tougher?
@monetcafe5 ай бұрын
I’ve heard the pool noodles work great for this, but I’ve actually never tried one myself. I’m thinking that the pipe foam insulation will hold up a bit better though. I think it’s more densely packed than a pool noodle. I haven’t used it though, for smoothing the clear gesso, so thank you for that Jenn!

@@monetcafe Ok, I think I ought to finally stop by the hardware store to get some proper pipe foam insulation then! Will report back. On the upside, the pool noodle was quite easy to cut with a bread knife! Packing peanuts do seem to work great too, but they are hardly used anymore! I tried using some of the biodegradable ones, they do work -- but can't be washed because they dissolve :)

@@monetcafe I promised to report back on whether the pipe foam doesn't shred blending on homemade surfaces made with clear gesso! And you are right, it IS denser/sturdier, and does not seem to shred. The pool noodle *did* work great in terms of blending -- but did shred and make a mess/contaminate your dust (if you like to save your dust and make new pastels). It also broke down quickly/did not wash up well. And it was a great way to try the blend with something I had on hand, but the pipe foam was definitely worth the trip to the hardware store :) Less than $3 and probably a lifetime supply!
