Wittenoom townsite video as preparations are underway for the demolition and burial of the what remains of the now degazetted town of Wittenoom.
Wittenoom was gazetted in May 1950 and degazetted in June 2007.
Visible are the recently burnt out houses, guesthouse and convent, along with the burial hole and site office and dome of the demolition company.

we were really closeby in Karijini, had no idea there was mountains of asbestos tailings lying around.. just 7km away from the eco retreat 🙁

Should have just left the town as it was , even without services, people should have been able to exercise their own right to live there or visit and to assess any and all risks involved .

Fascinating history. The last 3 holdouts were only recently booted. I read that Mario Hartmann once had a girlfriend a while back who lived in the burnt-down church? (2015 or so).

Yeah the history's of this town is massive and very interesting yet sad for the lives ruined and seeing the house's torn down just pissed me off , the council should leave the warning signs and be very clear enter at your own risk, or even better travel to Wittenoom only permitted if it's raining or has been or is still wet , well dust is controlled is my point , just safer while wet

Makes me wonder what happens to the last guy that lived there and was working for the research station there

Despite the horrors that befell the residents, it's kinda sad to see this place vanish into history, like Shay Gap before it. Does anyone know where Mario went? I hope he's ok, and his bodily defence systems are being studied by top medical researchers somewhere.

Where the hole is? That is where they buried the houses once they were demolished.

Yes, if you look at this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hMdigJVhvquXaZc.html "Wittenoom wiped from the map..." they were well into demolishing them all. I need to get out there before the end of the year for a recap and an update...
