In Eastern Europe they are iconic. In Bulgaria every year on July 1 on the seaside people are watching the sunrise and listening to July Morning by Uriah Heep. Often members of the band go there and perform the song. They are still making great albums and touring actively with guitarist Mick Box as the only surviving member. Drummer Lee Kerslake played and cowrote Ozzy Osbourne’s first two legendary albums.

Rich, you are so right when you talk about his voice. I saw them as a warm-up band. It was Uriah Heep, Cheap Trick and Styx. At one point, people were shouting. He asked "What song do you want to hear?" Everyone shouted Steali' He said we're going to do that later on in the show. They went off, not doing the song. He came back saying I'm sorry, we'd love to rock and roll some more but we got stuck with the time limit. But other tan that, I remember they did a pretty good show.

I love Stealin'- there was a band here in SW Michigan years ago called Decades who did a great cover of this song (sung by the drummer, who was a local fireman), and also was the only band I've ever heard who covered Timothy by The Buoys! A group of us would have dinner at the place they were playing at, then dance the night away to their music- every time I'd make a request, they'd say "let me guess, you want to hear Stealin' and Timothy", and I'd say, "YES I DO"! Great days.

Uriah Heep are a criminally under rated band. They have so many great songs. I am not sure if you know this but the drummer, Lee Kerslake, played all of the drums on the first two Ozzy Osbourne albums, though Tommy Aldridge is shown on the album covers and credited with playing the drums on them. Guitarist Mick Box was the only constant member of Uriah Heep with various members rotating in and out of the band through the years. They made a live DVD in 2002 called The Magician's Birthday Party which you should check out. Many of the essential members of the band united and put on one hell of a show. I was most enthralled to see Ken Hensley return to lay down his incredible Hammond organ work as well as playing some lead guitar and vocals. Ken was so multi talented but sadly has passed away a few years ago, as have several other members including their original singer David Byron, drummer Lee Kerslake, bassist Trevor Bolder, and a few other band members. May they live on through the music that they created!

Saw them a couple of times in 71 or 72. Once in a theatre that sat about 500. Buckwheat opened for them and to say it was loud would be understated. Really great group. Pity David Byron had a drinking problem that took him out a few years later but was an outstanding vocalist. They drew so much power, they were running large gauge extensions from neighbouring buildings. During one outage, Lee Kerslake just kept on drumming until things got sorted out. Mick was pure power. Sorry to drone on but they were amazing. Thanks for posting this. Kel would LOVE Gypsy and Easy Living.

Uriah Heep was one of those bands that didn't get much airplay on top 40. They didn't get much acknowledgement until early FM radio when they started playing "album Rock". You might have heard "The magicians Birthday" back in the 70's and Early 80's.

So glad you have been introduced to the wonderful world of Uriah Heep. They and Deep Purple I have always felt were at the top when it came to vocals, and their music too. This is a great album Demons and Wizards where your Wizard is from. It was their most accessible album from an otherwise less than mainstream band that never reached the sales of a Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or The Who. I think another fantastic twofer which would be Rainbow Demon and Paradise/The Spell. You will love these equally to the two on this reaction. Peace

Uriah Heep were most definitely one the best rock bands in history. David Byron is in my opinion in the top 3 rock vocalists ever, together with Lou Gramm and Paul Rodgers.
