You used to be able to play Winterbane and that other gauntlet on housing tours but some bright spark at KI changed it.

There is a glitch to do play the gauntlets on housing tours. First off, your account *CANNOT* have membership. Second off, you need A. Friend with membership, B. Friend with an unlocked crown area, or C. An alt account with membership or a unlocked crown area. (If you add a bunch of random high levels in the Commons, chances are they'll inevitably go into a locked membership area so you can preform this glitch.) Step 1 - Go to any housing tour that has a gauntlet. Step 2 - Teleport to a friend who is in a LOCKED MEMBERSHIP AREA. Step 3 - The pop up will come with the "Upgrade to Membership or Buy Area with Crowns" screen (For some reason, this takes you out of Housing Tour mode) Step 4 - Hit X/Cancel. Bonus Step - If you are using an alt to do this glitch, you can now TP to the alt on your main and join the gauntlet with them. Viola. You are now inside that person's home and are fully able to use any of their gauntlets. I'm actually quite interested to find out how far you can get into the game using Gauntlet Gear and TCs.

Lol weirdly when I was a kid, I only ever bought crowns because I didn’t get money often enough to pay for a membership every month. So I would just pay for every area one at a time. Apparently I did this all the way to 1/3 into dragonspyre lol. And whenever I couldn’t afford more crowns, I’d just play a different character lol

i dont have a membership, i do pay by area. I have up to zafaria paid for and it was like 160 dollars. so like 16 months of one month memberships. Lol imagine if i actually played this game for more than 2 weeks a year. i think i have 20k crowns left over and i cant help spending them on horde packs and other dumb stuff like castle expansion potions. Having unused crowns lying around is dangerously tempting. I also should note i wait till they run the 80k crowns for 80 dollars deal to buy crowns. if you dont itd be like 200$... Experience as a play by area is it was getting stupid expensive by wintertusk like 1995 an area per area and there were like 8 or 9 of them there. Zafaria dropped it back to 1695 and it feels a lot better and there have been less areas and it includes certain areas together. hoping that trend continues. Pay by area makes you play alts way more than average, i noticed a lot of people with memberships play characters a lot further than i do. Its nice not having to pay for areas on alts. Certain dungeons you can only rent and not purchase and its the dumbest thing ever i hope they do away with it. earlier areas are so cheap you could probably do stuff for free crowns and slowly unlock at least wizard city and the start of krok, itll take forever tho. As someone who normally has 20k sitting around they really are greedy with the pittance of crowns they hand out. as a member it would be enough to get horde packs now and again but as a pay by area its abysmally small. Either way i definitely spent more on wow and didnt bat an eye and im sure a lot of you have spent more on memberships without even realizing it. Like wow was wizard101 really worth being a 200$ game in hindsight?

my cringiest memory of no membership is hosting a wedding my myth house because my other poor friends didn’t have a house yet and i was the only one who did. to clarify, i wasn’t even the one getting married but 2 other people, one of which wasn’t even on my list but i just remember thinking “omg, more people are gonna vote for my house if more people come here”

Watching you play those mini games really humbled me. Seeing their icons made me think, “oh shit this mini game was fucking awesome,” then seeing you play them again I realized that they are indeed pretty dogshit
