In this Eyewitness News at Six report, Mike Schuh takes us behind the scenes at the work it took for the engineering team at WJZ-TV Channel 13 in Baltimore to switch from their longtime network affiliate ABC to their new home at CBS on January 2, 1995.

In Miami all we did was changed the channel. WTVJ NBC Switched from channel 4 to channel 6. WCIX CBS Switched from channel 6 to channel 4 and thus the call letters are now WFOR.

In New Orleans, LA: -WVUE-TV switches from ABC to FOX -WNOL-TV switches from FOX to The WB -WGNO-TV switches from The WB to ABC Only stations that didn’t change affiliates is WWL-TV and WDSU.

WJZ Channel 13 Switch from ABC to CBS. WGHP Channel 8 switch from ABC to Fox in High Point, NC.

This switch came about as a result of an affiliation agreement between CBS and Westinghouse under which all of the Group W stations that were not already CBS affiliates switched networks to CBS. This agreement was signed in July of 1994. It was not until August of 1995 that CBS agreed to be bought by Westinghouse. When that purchase was finalized in November of 1995 it was at that point that the Group W stations became CBS O&Os.

The Fox-New World deal set off musical chairs. ABC insisted that Scripps switch WMAR and two other stations over as part of an affiliation deal. WJZ had been ABC's longest-tenured affiliate, so they threw up their hands and signed that group-wide deal.

Don’t forget that it happened after ABC bailed on WJZ in favor of WMAR.

also in 1995 in Toledo Ohio there was a switch: WTVG: they went from NBC to ABC while WNWO: they went ABC to NBC as I don't know when this happened that year

In Baltimore, Maryland: *WJZ-TV 13 switches from ABC to CBS *WBAL-TV 11 switches from CBS to NBC *WMAR-TV 2 switches from NBC to ABC *WBFF-TV 45 switches from Independent, Good TV, This TV, and TBN to Fox, My Network TV, and Charge! *WNUV-TV 54 switches from Independent, UPN, and The WB to The CW, Antenna TV, Comet, and Stadium In The Washington DC Area: *WTTG-TV 5 switches from Independent to Fox *WDCA-TV 20 switches from Independent to UPN to Fox *WCDW-TV 50 switches from Independent and The WB to The CW In The New England Area (Boston, Massachusetts and Portland/Lewiston, Maine) *WPXT-TV 51 switches from Independent. Fox, and The WB to The CW *WPME-TV 35 switches from Independent, UPN, and The WB, to My Network TV and also changes its callsign to WIPL. *WBDJ-TV 23 switches from PAX TV to Fox and also changes its callsign twice---first to WMPX-TV 32 and now to WPFO-TV 32.

We would mostly watch WBAL-TV 11 (CBS to NBC) back in my childhood. But I prefer watching WJZ-TV 13 (ABC to CBS) if I still lived in Baltimore.

There was another three way affiliation switch in Evansville in December 1995 where WTVW, WEHT, and WEVV swapped affiliations. Channel 7 moved from ABC to Fox, while channel 25 moved from CBS to ABC and channel 44 moved from Fox to CBS.

At the same time in Green Bay, Wisconsin: * WLUK-TV 11 switches from NBC to Fox * WGBA-TV 26 switches from Fox to NBC * WXGZ-TV 32 switches from Independent to UPN with a secondary affiliation with The WB and also changes its callsign to WACY-TV 32.
